Central, efficient, reasonably priced!

It is a very pleasant hotel, with efficient , and unobtrusive and not particularly noteworthy.
It is extremely well located, you can walk practically anywhere, take a boat bus, or a tram ...its a small city....and this location is 1st class.
If you can get one of the apartments in the alley downstairs....a few stairs to climb but you feel like a local citizen and the apartments are great.
Downstairs on the street as you go toward the hotel there is a superb local distelliry of fine liqueurs....great gifts for your friends, and that late night chat about wonderful Amsterdam....the other "tastes" may be illegal....these are OK....and good too...

Unique Quality: Centrally located, efficient , sometimes has drastically reduced rates...check on the internet!

Luxury at Dam Square

The luxurious 5 star hotel NH Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky with almost 470 rooms is situated in the very heart of Amsterdam at Dam square. The hotel has various restaurants, a bar, brasserie and in the Lounge you can enjoy high tea.
Very impressive is the Winter Garden dating from 1879 with its glass roofed ceiling, the Belle Epoque restaurant Reflet and the delicious Japanese restaurant Edo/Kyo.
The hotel has a complete congress centre (for 2.000 people).

Unique Quality: As one can expect from such a hotel it offers luxurious accommodations equipped with all modern amenities, such as rooms with wireless internet access, international direct access telephone/fax lines, data ports, ISDN, mini bar, air-conditioning, 24 hour room service, trouser-press.
Although the hotel is located on such a vivid spot of the city the rooms are placed in a quieter part of the building to have a peaceful and relaxing visit.

Amsterdam's "best" hotel

Unfortunately, we were only here one night. Great location on Dam Square, no motor traffic except cabs. Red light district directly behind hotel, cabbie said don't walk in alleys at night alone. Go with a group or stay out of the narrow alleys. Felt safe in hotel. Largest room in our stay in Europe, also most expensive. For our Euros we got an in-room safe, king-sized bed, fluffy robes, towels, and slippers. Ice bucket (!) and glassware in room; also coffee maker and tea. So important! Ate no meals there but they did have room service. Would recommend this for a more upscale visit. It was our last night in Europe so we indulged.

Unique Quality: View of another building 20 feet away. No view from room 1124...but close to coffeehouses. Dam Square hops with young tourists.

On Dam Square 2002

We caught a good deal here so we booked our initial four nights. It is a nice place and I have no complants, but people seem to stay more remote the more a place costs. Excellent location.

Located in the Heart of Amsterdam

The luxurious 5-star hotel NH Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky is situated in the very heart of Amsterdam at Dam square, opposite the Royal Palace. Krasnapolsky Apartments

The apartments at the Krasnapolsky are actually around the corner on Oudezijds Voorburgwal. A great location being that it is right on a canal between Dam Square and the Red Light District.

That apartments have everything you need for a self catering stay, including washer and dryer. It is not much more expensive than other apartments and you are right in the middle of the action. The location couldn't get any better.

Unique Quality: All Krasnapolsky activities and restaurants are available to the apartment guests.

My room (7333) had a great patio that overlooked a courtyard and had a great view of Oude Kerk.

I loved sitting outside my apartment and watching the boats and the people go by. Made me feel like a local.

NH Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky

It's location is it's main unique quality, but not the only quality. It is a superb 5* hotel with great service, good restaurant outlets, beautiful rooms and decorations and an impressive history. If you are not staying in this hotel do pay a visit and enjoy a High Tea or a beer or anything else in the restaurant 'The Lounge' in the hotel lobby. Here you have a grandeur view over Dam Square. Ask the associates for a small book with the history of the hotel, which they can give you for free (if they still have it).

Any info on Krasnapolsky Apartments?

by jsshackel

Trying to finalize a first-time trip to Amsterdam for my wife and myself in December '04. Came across Internet info on the apartments at the NH Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky and it looks to be an incredible price. Mostly great reviews of the hotel itself on www.tripadvisor.com. Anyone have any direct knowledge of what the apartments are like? Main interest in lodging (other than usuals like cleanliness) is safety and security of the place along with what the general area around it is REALLY like for first-time tourists. Thanks in advance if replying!

Not only is the Krasnapolsky one of the foremost hotels in Amsterdam, you're right in the middle too. It's no safer or unsafer than anywhere else in the city center.
Compared to any major city in the world, Amsterdam is compact, small even. It's a 30 minute walk from Leidseplein to Central Station and with that you've just about crossed the city center.

You should address safety issues as you would anywhere else but even in light of recent happenings, The Netherlands still is a safe country. Some might disagree but this is my opinion and I have yet to have reason to change it.
Have fun, don't worry!

The hotel is across the Dam Square from the Royal Palace and the Nieuwe Kerk, a couple of blocks from the red light district, and steps from the most beautiful streets in the heart of the old center. Be warned, the immediate vicinity is very very busy, with hordes of tourists, activity deep into the night, and lots of traffic. I think for first time vistors to Amsterdam it should feel very safe since virtually everybody there is from somewhere else and the place is lit up like a Christmas tree at all hours---for those of us who live there the area is one to be avoided if you need to be anywhere in a hurry. Beware of pickpockets and remember that junkies are harmless.

Can't speak for the apts., but can tell you I've been on the square several times the past weeks, and felt very safe.

I feel safer there than in Memphis or Nashville! Lots of folks, but far less than you would find in Memphis for "Memphis in May or Elvis holidays"
