From Schipol airport to Leidse Square

by jorgec25

Can anyone tell me the fastest way to get from Schipol airport to Leidse Square, please?

Our flight arrives at 19.50h and we have to check in until 22h the latest. We are a group of 5, so taxi is an option only in a minivan or similar.

Thanks in advance

Hey Carlos---just got back from 6 days there, myself----2 hours might be cutting it a little close to go through customs, catch the train to Central Station and then a tram to Leidsesquare----guessing that you could do it IF customs is quick and you catch a train right away to the Central Station-----the train takes about 20 minutes and then catching a tram to Leidsesquare another 10-20 minutes......It has been awhile since I took a taxi in Amsterdam, but they used to be pretty costly!

Re: From Schipol airport to Leidse Square

best thing you can do:

take Bus 197 at Schiphol and get off at Leidseplein.
Time: 32 minutes on the bus

take Localtrain destination 'Hoorn Kersenboogerd' from platform 3. Get off at trainstation 'treinstation Lelylaan' in Amsterdam (arrival platform 2).
Walk to tramstop 'Station Lelylaan' in Amsterdam.
take Tram 1 destination Centraal Station. Get off at tramstop 'Leidseplein' in Amsterdam.
Time: 27 minutes

Here's the journeyplanner:

Enjoy your visit!

Thank you both for the quick replies :)

Re: From Schipol airport to Leidse Square

Sorry, I didn't research the taxi possibility.
I suggest you look into the following link:

At that time of day, the ride from Schiphol to Leidseplein should about 25-30 minutes. It's only around 15 kms but with the inner city to navigate, you never know.

However, if you inform your hotel, it must be possible to check in somewhat later.

Thank you again :)

I had seen that option at the Schipol Airport. But it's way more expensive than the great bus tip you gave me and it looks like it takes more or less the same time.

we are staying in an apartment, and since the office closes at 22h if we check in later that that, we will have to pay an extra fee :( That's what I would like to avoid

19.50 arrival.

You could take a train at ~20.45 and a tram from the central station to the Leidseplein.

You should be at the Leidseplein before 21.45 for about 6 Euro per person in this way (one way train fare 2nd class + single tram ticket).

Hello PJ :)

Thanks. That's the route I used on my previous visit to Amsterdam, but I didn't remembered how long it took. But I remember it took a lot of time looking for the tram stop outside the central station, among all those tram lines :))

But looks like a very good option, if we can make it to that train.

Just take tram 1 or tram 5.

I guess you can travel faster, but I added 15 minutes for each change in your journey.

I think having a Sex Museum in one country is unique. Here, you will discover tons of amazing porn photos, both olds and news! some materials on exhibit, miniatures in different positions, and the statue of 'Marilyn Monroe' in wax.

Tour the home of Anne Frank.

by NineMiles

Anne Frank's home was incredible. So rich with history, you can almost live the memories as they occured decades ago. At the risk of repeating everything anyone has ever said about this home, I'll say without hesitation that it is the SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT historical site I've visited.

To give you some perspective, I've toured up and down the East Coast in America. I've seen plenty of history from the Revoltionary War, Civil War and the first days of America. Hell, I even drive by Columbine High School a few times a month and have to acknowledge that it is more than just another school. And as much as I was moved by the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, D.C., none of the above can compare to the home of Anne Frank.

But just like Columbine, Vietnam and the many wars our world has seen, Anne Frank speaks volumes about how quickly our lives can be turned upside down. Genocide is going on everyday because there are those who care little for life. As I've mentioned on my Littleton mentioned, we just need to learn tolerance and communication to prevent these types of tragedies in the future.

The picture is of a church next to the Anne Frank home. I have a photo of the home itself, but you can't really get a sense for it, due to how it has change as a result of the tour.

Allthough here in The Netherlands we have a liberal view concerning smoking HERBS, and you will find some amazing weeds, there are a few things you should be aware of.
Officialy it is still ilegal but you wont get arrested for an amount of up to about 5 - 10 grams,
If you try 'spacecake' don't eat the whole slice at once but just a third and wait about 20 minutes just to see what the effect will be.
If you walk down the street smoking a joint people will not say anything about it but you stick out like a sore thumb and in general people will think 'there goes another silly tourist'.
And if you go into a bar or a cafe just have a look to see if there are people smoking a spliff, don't assume that you can smoke everywhere because in quit a lot of places they prefer people not smoking so you wont look silly when the bartender asks you to put your joint out.

If you happend to be in Amsterdam on a Saturday you can visit the famers market (Boerenmarkt) on the square around Noordenkerk. You can buy anything from biodynamic vegetabliles, cheese, flowers, musrooms, breed and much much more. I find Amsterdam most beautiful in the dusk. Go for a long walk along the canals or take an evening tour-boat to see Amsterdam by night.
