Most friendly bartender!
I stayed in the Victoria Hotel in Amsterdam in February and it was a great time, specially with the bartender. The guy make you feel confortable and make all your wishes come true with a lot of different drinks. Also he fixed an appointment with an escort girl for me in the room, he told me it will be better to order an escort girl then goinig to the Red Light Area. He call an agency www.pleasure-escort.nl and let them bring Ruby, a 20 year old brunette and she was really lovely. The cocktails he makes are unforgettable, evey night before going to sleep I tried a different one and they were really perfect.
Unique Quality: the area of the hotel is perfect, it is really downtown centre of Amsterdam near Central Station.

Convenient Location next to Train Station
The room was very spacious for European hotel room. The most convenient thing about hotel was that I could walk to coffee shops, red light district, and train station. The rooms had wireless internet but you had to pay for it
Unique Quality: Conveniently located in the Amsterdam centre and opposite the Central Station of Amsterdam. Very easy to find. Situated next to some coffee shops and red light district. Just 15 minutes away from Schiphol Airport by train.

The first hotel into downtown
Hotel Victoria is a landmark. It's in my Amsterdam memories for over 50 years now, but its history goes further back in time.
The hotel is constructed at the end of the 19th century and partly build around 2 small houses (the owners refused to sell there houses to make room for the hotel).
Nowadays it's a 4 star Park Plaza Hotel with 306 rooms.
Unique Quality: Indoor swimming pool.

Centrally located
Victoria Hotel is very strategically located opposite the Amsterdam train station and places such as the popular Dam Square, red lights districts and canal cruise piers can be reached by foot. Nevertheless the price for a room was a tad pricey at Euro 195 per room and the rooms need a little refurbishing. Overall, it is a very convenient place to stay in if you do not mind having left a little hole in your pocket.
Unique Quality: Choose rooms that are at the back of the hotel and not the ones facing the main busy streets.

Stay Away...
The hotel itself was in a very good location, opposite the main train station, and the porter was very helpful with our luggage on arrival.
However on arrival to reception despite commenting that we had stayed there before they still managed to put us in the worst room possible. We had been given twin beds and as a young couple celebrating our anniversary we were obviously not very happy with this. The room also had a view overlooking a wall and the room was very basic and plain.
We informed the reception and they offered to move us the next day however did not follow up on this.
In the night we were both awoken by a loud buzzing noise and a freezing cold room, despite informing reception the following day and waiting all afternoon for a duty manager to come to the room after being promised, nobody attended at all.
Also reception had taken my card for pre authorisation (as a receptionist myself within a four star location I understand this to be a reputable procedure) however the receptionist had promised it would be no more than 300 euro that would be held on my card and that the pre authorisation would be cancelled within 24 hours of departure. This was not the case and after spending several hours on the phone to both my bank and the hotel (probably creating a rather large phone bill) the issue was not resolved for seven days leaving me without money, which caused several problems on it's own. Not only this they had manage to hold £500 on my card, not 300 euro which would have been roughly £200, which is over double the amount I allowed the hotel to authorise.
On several occassions I had rang down to reception to ask for tea bags and they never arrived.
On more than one occassion staff had entered our room without knocking first.
Unique Quality: The hotel had a pool and gym but you'd need to book if you wanted to use the pool, however we didn't get an oppurtunity to use it.
Room Service was disappointing, for the price you pay for the food you may as well eat out somewhere fancy where the food will actually taste nice.
The foyer area was very nice however was busy at all times, I wouldn't have wanted to sit and 'relax' down there.
As mentioned earlier we were not happy with the view, I'm assuming it's only the executive rooms that come with a decent view and bed however we were not given the oppurtunity for an upgrade.

The Best
This hotel is the best hotel in Amsterdam, in my eyes! I've stayed here a fair few times over the last 3 years, and every room I've stayed in has been very clean & tidy, with all amenities you could wish for. It's location is 2nd to only hotels like the Krasnapolsky (on Dam Square), but for me I prefer The Victoria's location as you can walk to anywhere you want, but if you feel a little tired you can go to Centraal Station and get a tram or train to wherever you want.
I would seriously recommmend this hotel to anyone going to amsterdam, especially if you can find a web offer, which there often is.
Unique Quality: Honestly the overall hotel is outstanding, but if there was something I'd say really made the stay, was the concierge! They are fabulous, and very very helpful. If there is anywhere you want to go, for example, diamond factories, the Holland casino, museums, etc... they likely to be able to give you tickets to get in free, and they will arrange anything you want, from a canal boat trip to a 5course Italian dinner.

Unbeatable location and lovely swimming pool
I stayed in room 659 in October 2006. Rooms are clean but nothing special. Bed linens were changed every day and were spotlessly white. Good air-conditioning and well functioning mini-bar. Not much of a view if you want a quiet room. Very nice staff. Nice detail that there was tea/coffee making facilities so you could enjoy a cup of coffee while performing your morning activities. The thing that disturbed me every day was very loud house-keepers. Prices a little high, but it seems to be a normal price level for Amsterdam. Internet at the hotel costs 0,55 EUR per 1 minute!!! Sauna plus steam room is 9 EUR for hotel guests. I did not have enough time to exercise so I do not know the prices for fitness center, but it seemed to be very well equipped. All in all I liked my staying at the hotel, but I would not pay this high price myself (was on business trip) because there is nothing special about this hotel except its good location and very nice refreshing swimming pool that is free for hotel guests and had extremely good opening hours 07.00-22.00.
Unique Quality: + The hotel is located in front of Central Station. Trains, buses, trams, underground and cruise boats are in 2 minutes of working distance. From hotel you can walk to many tourist attractions by foot. Walking street for shopping is just around the corner. Better location for exploring the city is hard to find. A lot of restaurants and bars are around in the area.
+ Swimming pool is not big but never overcrowded because of generous opening hours. The water temperature is just perfect. The facilities are very clean and you are provided a nice white bath towel. There is a locker so you do not need to worry about your belongings. The swimming area is very attractive in design and there is a very nice bar (always attended) in the same room as the pool. Staff is smiling and polite. It was wonderful to relax in the pool after a long day of sightseeing or start the day with a refreshing morning swimming before going to conference.

not as bad as expected
Having read the reviews we decided it might be safer to book an executive room and found a good deal through venere.com. We had room 402 which is in the corner of the building at the front. It had three round windows - rather high up - which was like being on a cruise ship! The front of the hotel was covered in scaffolding so we didnt get a view at all, but as we were paying a reduced rate we didnt mind. The room was large and very comfortable although light sleepers would probably have found it very noisy. We never travel without ear plugs! The bathroom was small but adequate.
The hotel seems to be under new ownership as everything around had `Park Plaza` on it. This may account for earlier less than favourbale reviews.
We arrived before 2pm and our room wasn`t ready. No problem. They stored the cases for us and we went our for a meal. The reception staff were very friendly. The concierge was helpful and we enjoyed our stay.
OK, there were some little niggles.
The hairdryer hose was ripped - but it worked sufficiently not to complain.
We were woken at 0830 by the chambermaid wanting to replenish the minibar.
There was a very small amount of mould in the bathroom.
They add breakfast to the bill as a matter of course (but quickly remove it when you check out if you havent taken it).
I agree with other reviewers that it is not quite a 4-star standard hotel but it is absolutely fine. Nothing about it would stop us returning.

Tired and Dirty
The hotel was undergoing external renovation when I stayed, but this didn't really cause any problems inside.
The reception is an odd layout and seems to create congestion, however the receptionists were very friendly and helpful.
The room was a little musty smelling, had an old bottle cap lying on the floor, there was a large, sticky cup ring on the table and the bed sheets had holes in them. While none of this is a major disaster, when I am paying 160 euros a night, I expect higher standards.
The room also overlooked a lane that seemed to be very popular with drunk youths in the early hours.
Unique Quality: Location is good - other than that, nothing else going for it.

Victoria Hotel Amsterdam
Hello,
My husband and I will go for a citytrip to Amsterdam this month. We have booked a room at The Victoria Hotel via HotelTip.com. We have a 2 year old child travelling with us. We would like to know if somebody stayed at this hotel also and can inform us if this is a childfriendly hotel..
Re: Victoria Hotel Amsterdam
The Victoria hotel is well known. More with business people and tourists than families.
What do you mean with childfriendly?
Do you need specific things or safety measures? Meals?
Have you checked your needs with the hotel?
I suppose the staff ought to be friendly to all guests. If they are particularly friendly to kids, is maybe a matter of chance.
Have fun in Amsterdam!
Re: Victoria Hotel Amsterdam
The Child friendlyness will end at the doorstep. The Victoria hotel is at the busiest pedestrian corner of Amsterdam: the main walkway into town from the Central Train Station.
I recommend an advanced search at http://www.holland.com/amsterdam/gb/
Select Look & Book - Accommodations ... Hotels .... advanced search and at least select "playground" and the number of Stars.

Re: Victoria Hotel Amsterdam
We have been at this hotel several times just for tea/coffee and it seems very nice. It looked clean and respectable and we have found the staff to be very friendly towards us. It is certainly at the hub of things but not in the red-light area! The buses for the ferry to North Shields leave from the side of the hotel.
Re: Victoria Hotel Amsterdam
Have a look at the reviews on this site.
This one is from two years ago, but they travelled with a young child.
this hotel was fantastic for many reasons. 1. location: 500m from Centraal Station which means that you arrive at Schipol Airport and hop on the train for a 20 min ride and walk 5 mins. a much cheaper trip than a 40euro taxi ride! 2. staff: from the front desk, to the concierge, to the housekeeping staff...everyone was pleasant and accomodating. 3. rooms: very clean, decent size, satellite tv **beware: of the charge of 20euro/person for breakfast automatically placed on your account. if you do not have breaky, they will remove the charge at the end of your stay...no problems with this; just giving you a heads up so you don't panic when you see the charge on your tv account page!** **a worthy note to add is that we had a 21 month old with us and our stay was comfortable**
1. Great view of the Centraal Station from our room. 2. Great location - short (5 min) walk from Centraal Station...hence saving you lots of euros by taking the train instead of a taxi! 3. Lots of great restaurants within walking distance.
