Anne Frank's House, Madurodam & Zaanse Schans
by SamirGarg
We are a family of 9 with 4 children travelling from India to Amsterdam.
On the 14th May, we are visiting Keukenhof gardens.
On the 15th of May, we want to visit Anne Frank's House, Madurodam & Zaanse Schans. Kindly let us know the most convenient mode of covering all these places in 1 day as we are staying in Novotel Amsterdam City. Should we take a tour to cover these?
On 16th Morning, we have few hours free before we catch Thalys to Paris. What would you suggest that we can do in the morning.

You need to get to the Anne Frank House as early as you can....queues are very long. I was there 20 minutes before opening on a well-below-freezing February day and there were about 15 people (and a group) in front of me. By 11am the queue stretched round the corner of the building.
It will be much worse at this time of year.
Even better, book your tickets in advance online:

In the morning before you leave I suggest you enjoy wandering along the canals of the old city, enjoying at the wonderful architecture and enjoying a coffee in one of the brown cafes. Or take a canal boat trip from outside Amsterdam Centraal station.

As I recollect it, Madurodam is nearer The Hague but I could be wrong, so it would be hard going to do both Anne Frank's house and Madurodam in one day. Every time I have been past Anne Frank's house in the last 10 years it has had an enormous queue - we have been past in spring, summer, winter and fall!!
Travel Tips for Amsterdam
When in Rome....
by Bastardino
As the saying goes, when in Rome... well you know the rest. Everyone knows that the Dutch tolerate soft drugs, hence if anyone has any desire to try them this is the place to do so. But please do not become like so many stoned out American tourists who come to othis rich, historic city with one purpose in mind. It is sad and very unattractive to see people day in and night out in the same stinky shops. Moderation is key to enjoying a healthy life. I visited a shop called Dolphin which was very cozy.

Not a must, but a moment of silence when you arrive by train in Amsterdam,Centraal Station:the waitingroom
'Wachtkamer 1e klasse'in a magnificent Art-Deco style,
and a nice cup of coffee.
Our own little 'Chinatown' : Zeedijk and Nieuwmark,
and of course the 'Spiegelkwartier'in the neighbourhood of the 'Rijksmuseum', a little walk of
5 minutes and you are in the center of many galleries,
with a great offer of art, cheap or expensive
to truly experiance this city i suggest walking.

the city it's self is very small, we walked the entire trip everywhere we went. the only time we took a cab was the first day from dam square to the b&b then 2 more times late at night when we were to tired to walk. if you really want to experiance all this city has to offer you have to trek it on foot, otherwise your proned to get caught up in the hustle. the streets and buildings are each truly unique, they might all look the same from a distance but at a closer glance you'll notice differences in most of the builings and streets. the architecture of amsterdam was everything and more than i expected.

Shop at the Ratterman Clog Factory. Shop for souvenirs at the Clog Factory. The prices are reasonable, and from wooden tulips, to clogs and windmills, you will have plenty of choices. I really regretted not getting a pair of clogs. They're just so pretty.
Koninklijk Paleis (The Royal Palace)
by Mariajoy
Situated in Dam Square is the Royal Palace, open to the public with guided tours daily during June-July 10am-6pm and August 12.30 to 5pm. It was built during the 17th century as the city's town hall and became an official royal residence in the early 1800's.
