amsterdam best alternative to a hotel

I have stayed once in august with Efrin at his houseboat and had one of the best times in A'Dam ever! He stocks the fridge with anything you would want for breakfast and is unobtrusive the rest of your stay unless you need something. The boat is located near Leidseplein and also the Pijp area---right across the canal from the Heineken Brewery. There is one main bedroom, a large bathroom and a large main room which includes a kitchen with a fridge, burners----dont remember if there is a microwave or not---such is Amsterdam, but great views out the window of swans and canal cruise boats. Many extras just check out the website....As I said Leidseplein nearby with Wagamama's, the Bulldog coffeeshop and many other goodies nearby just take a very safe walk around this neighborhood---a nice park half a block away from the boat. Efrin can advise on any questions if you need him---he is in an apartment nearby...Smoking allowed next to a window or on the very cool back deck which has a small table and chair for relaxation.

Houseboat

Try staying in a houseboat for a change. There are a lot of choices for rent. Some can be really nice. Probably a good choice if staying a week or more.

Warning for the arachnophobic that houseboats are on water and even though they are clean, they can have spiders.

Note that although you cannot swim in the canals, they do not stink. That was a worry that I would have had in booking a room on the water.

Unique Quality: Great view and can be relaxing to be on water.

Try a Houseboat!

by 4vicci about Amsterdam waterfront

After many trips to A'dam, I wanted to see if it were possible to rent a houseboat for a week. It turns out that we could and it was actually cheaper than a nice hotel! We went through holidaybookings.uk. See the photos! Living on a canal.

A calm oasis in the centre of the city

by A TripAdvisor Member

What fun to stay on a houseboat on our first visit to Amsterdam. The location was marvelous - within walking distance of everything we wanted to see but in a quiet location away from the traffic and crowds. Loved coming back to our cosy oasis after the bustle of the city each day. Our host Efren could not have been more helpful, the accommodation was ideal and the quantity and variety of foodstuff provided was very generous. Highly recommended!

Great location on a safe street and quite canal

The weather was a little chilly at the end of Feb., but we knew about that.
The houseboat was such a find. Everything was very nice and it was really great to have our own kitchen area. The bed was comfortable and the space was great. It was fun to watch the tour boats go by. Thank you
again for having such a great set up! We hope to visit again, maybe in a few years. But this time in the summer!

Better than any hotel

by A TripAdvisor Member

I stayed on the houseboat with my boyfriend and another couple and found it a perfect base for this diverse city.

There is one room which has 2 single beds that can be pushed together to make a large double and a TV, then there is a lovely bathroom and another bedroom with a double bed but within that room there is also the kitchen, dining table, cd player and DVD, this room also has access to the terrace where you can feed the greedy ducks and wave to the tourists on their canal cruise! Just make sure the couple that get up the earliest sleeps in the latter room so they can put the kettle on in the morning.

All rooms are kept clean, are very stylish and are well equipped.

The road/canal the boat is along is lovely and peaceful but is in easy access to the tram line and is in walking distance to most attractions.

I'd defiantly come back to the houseboat and would recommend it to everyone, couples and families alike.

Great Houseboat

This was a wonderful way to visit Amsterdam! Efren is a warm and welcoming host who anticipated all comforts, needs and especially atmosphere. The houseboat was toasty even in the snow, very comfortable, clean, great location and a perfect space for 4!! We loved the ducks, swans, flowers and we have raved about our experience to friends and family! We hope they will visit you soon!! Thanks again! Katie & John Platz, Providence, Rhode Island, US.

New favorite place to stay in Amsterdam!

Just got back from spending 9 nights on Efren's darling houseboat and cannot say enough good things about the accomodations or the host!

Efren's attention to detail made the stay a memorable one. From fresh cut flowers to fresh bread he takes care of it all for you.

We found that, once we learned the tram system in Amsterdam, it was easy to get anywhere we wanted to go from the area the boat is in... just two stops from the Leidesplein, a good jumping off spot for any day's adventure.

This was my third trip to Amsterdam, a city I love, and staying on the houseboat makes you feel like a local.

Staying on the boat gave us the opportunity to be tourists in Amsterdam but also mix in with the locals. The location of Efren's boat was just perfect. Fresh croissants and coffee from the market each morning and hanging out at the bars in the evening.

There is also a fantastic Italian restaurant nearby called the "Boomerang".
