If you like solitary confinement, you'll LOVE it!

I booked a single room with my own bathroom at this hotel. Not only was it on the 4th floor, after a final and STEEP flight of stairs but the room was slighly larger than my cubicle at work with NO WINDOWS. It had a small skylight that I could open and close with a pole, but that's it. And it only had one picture on it's drab cream colored walls. I felt as if I was in a jail cell. The sun would come shining in on my face at the crack of dawn. The bathroom was so small that my body was constantly in contact with either the curtain or the shower fixtures. I could NOT sleep in here.

Also, most of the staff was rude and I spotted a mousetrap in the breakfast room. Yuck.

Unique Quality: You could hear all your neighbors. No peace at night.

I've just added this picture. Sure it looks nice from the outside but always remember that looks can be deceiving.

Cheap, nice and close to the city centre

The Hotel was unexpectedly cheap, the rooms were small and simple, but clean and (at least our room, which was just under the roof with lrage front windows) had a nice atmosphere, that you could even stay in your room and have some whine.

Unique Quality: The street is pretty nice and consits of lots of 19th century houses.

fantastic canal scenery

This was not much more than a hostel bed if 3 people share a room .Not that hotels are cheap just that weekend hostel rates are sooooo expensive and twin /dorm beds in small rooms are unheard of and if they do exist are vitally booked ahead for weeks.
The foof top cityscape was marvellous and being next to the leidsplein it was handy for every thing.

Unique Quality: location .good clean showers. and atmospheric staircases {Ladders}

Tour United Europe in a single street

Right in the middle of the Roemer Visscherstraat, only 3 minutes walk from Museumplein you can find a group of houses in the national styles of several countries aka the Seven Countries-Houses.
The architect was Tjeerd Kuipers, who is well-known for his protestant churches throughout the country.
The Seven Countries-Houses were built in 1894 and his intention was to introduce how the national architecture developed in Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Russia, Holland and England.
Here you can see from Loire chateau and Moor palace through onion-shaped orthodox and gothic Cathedrals to Venetian palazzo and renaissance Dutch villa. The row of houses ends with an English cottage at number 30a.
The whole building complex belongs now to Quentin England Hotel.

2. What is the best way to visit Amsterdam city.Is there any 3 day ticket pass for rail, bus, ferry.Or its better to do it on bicyle and even on foot.Which one you will recommend bearing in mind that i will stay there for 4 days.

hi there,

first of all, you might want to look through the Amsterdam forum. Your 2nd question is answered there frequently.
For instance: www.visitamsterdam.nl

Additionally, you could look up the transportation tips on the VT Schiphol or VT Amsterdam page.

For your hotel:
a map can be found at http://www.hotels.nl/amsterdam/quentinengland/map/
Best to take a train from Schiphol to Amsterdam Central Station. There take either a taxi or a tram (see transportation tips).

All public transport info in Amsterdam on http://www.gvb.nl/english/default.asp (English version)

train from schiphol to amsterdam central station is a good idea.
for trams you can also take 1,2 and 5 to leidseplein and walk straigh ahead to the marriot. then go into the vondelstraat. think roemer visscherstraat is the 1 to the left then. but tram 1 is also good for 1ste constatijn huygenstraat.
you are really in the centre, rijksmuseum van goghmuseum vondelpark leidseplein are i think about 5 minutes walking.
you can also take a city pass including museums and public transport. depends what you want to do.
you can rent bicycles at max euweplein and kerkstraat. think you need to give your passport.dont go biking in leidsestraat fine will cost you about 25 euro.
hope this helps a bit.

1) Train/tram combination ("Strippenkaart for the tram can already be bought at the Schiphol Airport train ticket counter).

or

Airport hotel shuttle minivan (low cost door-to-door).

2) Walking or cycling
BTW ferry is free; a canal boat trip gives you a fast inside picture.

more info/recommodations:
Read our Amsterdam Warning tips (awareness!)
Go out on the streets on a sunny day; visit the museums on a cloudy day.

Thk you dudes

Re: Transportation in amsterdam

by mindcrime

Train/tram combination means you use the same ticket for the train that goes to central station? How many zones u have to count on the strippenkaart?

Re: Transportation in amsterdam

by pieter_jan_v

No, you need a train ticket for train travel.

The "Strippenkaart" only is for tram, bus and metro.
