On a beautiful canal...

I found this little place tucked away in a beautiful section of Amsterdam. It is a 17th century canal house on a quiet tree lined canal, with the Zuiderkerk on one end, with the Stopera and Waterlooplein around the corners. You will love the location!
Note: I have read some negative reports on Trip Advisor for this place, but it worked out very well for me. I was traveling alone, and had a single room which was typical of small rooms in Europe.

Unique Quality: In an old canal house, it is simple and clean with a small bar on the ground floor. They serve a modest breakfast, which along with all taxes is included in the price. The staff was very nice and accomodating. Be prepared for the stairs, as there is no elevator, but the climbs aren't bad at all!

More about Rembrandtplein

Golden Tulip Caransa:

by RAJ_1971 about Golden Tulip Caransa:

£65 per night for the room, but this was booked on Airnet.co.uk, whos price quotes was cheaper than the proce quoted in the hotel. Probably pretty expensive compared to other hotels, but the location was excellent. The room was massive & had a view over Rembrandtplein. The breakfast was great too. Loads of choice.

Finding good reasonably priced...

by Livermore

Finding good reasonably priced accommodations in July can be difficult. I think it is best to book as far ahead as possible. I also used the the services of a local travel agency called Lindbergh. They are able to buy blocks of rooms and resale them at a lower price then the hotel's rack rate. This saved me a substantial amount of money. I stayed at the Best Western Eden hotel which was convienently located along the Amstel canal in Rembrandtplein. You couldn't asked for a better location. During an earlier visit in 1992, I just showed up during mid July and had a hotel finding service in the train station book me a room. Because of the lack of availibility in of rooms in Amsterdam during the high season, I was forced to stay further out in a not so good hotel. But I come to Amsterdam for the city not the hotels.
This was in 1998 and it cost me around $50 US. A series on interconnected canal houses. They also have a pretty good breakfast buffet.

TIME TO GO TO BED WHEN IN AMSTERDAM??? i DOUBT IT.

Visit the Vondelpark, Rembrandtplein and Leidseplein (plein means square). The activities going on at these sites describe the Amsterdam-spirit at it's best. If you have time, pay a visit to coffeeshop Smokey at the Rembrandtplein (lots of tourist go there !)
