Eating gluten-free in Amsterdam

by nlreilly

Can anyone recommend any restaurants that serve gluten free in the Amsterdam city centre area? Anyone serving gluten-free beer? Thank you.

Hi,

Not from personal experience but from google, have a look here: http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g188590-i60-k1827738-Wheat_free_or_gluten_free_dining_in_Amsterdam-Amsterdam_Noord_Holland.html

Grrr, I pushed the wrong button and lost the list I was making here!
It is wise to announce beforehand about your diet so that the kitchen can prepare.
These restaurants all have good recommendations on the internet (all in Dutch).

Again:

'Van de Markt'

Pizza (yes!) at 'De Italiaan'
http://www.deitaliaan.com/

'Indian Roti Room'

Japanese at Yamazato (at the Okura Hotel)

Spanish at Tapa Feliz

About the beer:

Mongozo is certified fairtrade and glutenfree beer.

More info (in Dutch)
http://www.mongozo.com/en/home
http://www.bierenco.nl/

I can't see any pubs serving it.
But you can buy it at a cash & carry here:

Drinks Drive Inn AMSTERDAM
Veemarkt 57
1019 DA Amsterdam

Days of Innocence, August 2002

by bakpakchik

This picture was by Jill taken shortly before she ordered a 'space cake' and I asked 'What's a space cake?' - much to the amusement of the girls. As I said, days of innocence.

My idea of fun was to walk around the city and to spend a LOT of time at the Van Gogh museum. Live sex shows and trying legal drugs was nowhere on my agenda. What's funnier is that I didn't even know about Amsterdam's claim to fame as the unofficial sex, drugs and booze capital of the world till I was already there for a day.

Walk, walk and walk some more....

Walk, walk and walk some more. DO NOT even bother with renting a car. Not only will you get in great shape (ha!), you see everything and avoid the Parking Politie. I loved all of Amsterdam - from the seedy to the elegant; it's all fabulous. The locals have a great attitude about life and enjoy it whenever the opportunity strikes. I am really going to miss the lifestyle and the sky.

Winter in Amsterdam.

This picture is taken in Damrak - a big square with several tourist attractions. Behind us in the picture is the palace and a temporary ice skating rink with artificial snow. There are some stalls around selling donut, nuts, sugar floss, waffles, sausages, etc.

research the internet before you go
