Not for the party type....
This hostel was clean, offers a simple breakfast and friendly staff. We took this option because it was one of the cheapest places to stay in the city centre. The cons were that the male and female dorms are separate, curfew when i was there was 12 or 1am (now its 2am! damn!!), and you have to leave the hostel between 10am and 1pm. We got by with some rough mornings and rushed evenings but if I went back I would stay in a place with no curfew for few extra euro. Amsterdam has a great nightlife and those who are looking to party do not stay at the Shelter. Couldn't complain too much though, it is within walking distance from all the city's sights and in a relatively quiet area.

more or less 16 euro/per night depending on season...
Unique Quality: For a very good price, this hostel offer everything needed and more to the not to 'picky' travellers!! The staff is sympathic and helpfull. Always eager to help and meat you. The meals offered, both at breakfast and supper, are just what is needed to the tired traveller! The dormitories are both calm and secure. Only the confort of the bed themselves could be better.
