Great Hostel
The hostel was very comfortable, clean and affordable. The room was small, but clean and cozy and accessible by key card. There were lockers for use with your own padlock. The common area in the lobby has vending machines, fooseball, tv and computers (very slow with issues). Breakfast was great and included eggs, meats, cheeses, breads, cereal, yogurt, juice, tea and coffee. There are also lockers for storage. The front desk sells discounted museum and tour tickets.
Accommodation was € 27 per night in a 4-bed dorm with shower and sink room and toilet (WC).
My only complaint was the beds were hard, so I slept with the duvet folded for more padding.

Good place for backpackers
Don't expect too much about the rooms, we had a 4 persons room.
2 bunk beds, 2 chairs, a table and a very sober bathroom.
But for a two nights stay where we hardly been at the room it will do fine.
The restaurant was cosy and the food good for a price of 9 euro's.
There is a pool table, a large tv screen and internet conection that cost you €1,50 for 15 minutes and €3,00 for an hour.
The reception is open 24 hours a day.
Unique Quality: Unique of this location is that it's near the Vondelpark, with one step you are in the park.
In the morning you hear the birds and can be amazed about the many cyclists riding through the park.
The building itself is an old school of home economics

Official Youth Hostel
One of the best City Hostels i have stayed at in Europe.
Great location - also - if you are put in the old building you may be in a dorm where you have a view out into the trees and vondelpark - you will hear birds singing in the morning and the "ching ching" of Amsterdammers communting through the park by old bicycles.
The soft sound of a "ching ching" is by far the very best sound i have ever woke up to.
The Hostel itself is very modern inside. If i had to pick up on the negatives i would say what the Hostel does not have is a common room as such - there is an internet access room with a couple of chairs here. If you go in Summer most people will sit and lie about on the grass opposite in the Vondelpark
Locastion - only 2 mins to Leidseplein and 5 mins to Museumplein. From Leidseplein there are Trams every 10 mins to Central Station via Spui and de Dam.
Hostel - in Vondelpark - very serene - then you have just 2 mins away all the Pubs and Nightclubs at Leidseplein.
Unique Quality: Facilities at Hostel
Bar/ Brassiere - Bar that serves food on the ground floor
You normally get a voucher for 1 or 2 small glasses of the very nice Heiniken on tap.
No lockout
Price was 84 Euro for 3 nights

Another great Stayokay hostel
Part of the Stayokay hostels (part of Hosteling International so you need an ID card), this is one of the very largest hostels in Amsterdam. Located at Zandpad 5, it is convenient to the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, Leidseplein. Tram service is convenient. It is a little hard to find, but if you ask the tram personnel, they will guide you. Basically, if you are standing facing the entrance to Vondelspark, there is a small alley immediately to the right of the park. Just go down the alley about 2 blocks and you will be in front to the hostel.
There are different sized rooms from singles to large dorms and all have ensuite facilities. The rooms are clean, large and comfortable, the staff is friendly and helpful. You must rent sheets. This is NOT a real "party hostel" like some others, but It is certainly more quiet if you like the idea of being able to sleep. For a hostel, it gets 5 stars from me.
Unique Quality: Beautiful location withing a few feet of one of the prettiest parks in Amsterdam. There is bike rental in the area, as well as museums and the "most happening" square in Amsterdam.

Looking out on the Vondelpark
The Stayokay chain in the Netherlands is beginning to become quite famous and ... the deserve that. This hostel chain has branches everywhere throughout the Netherlands and also several ones in Amsterdam. Especially the one besides the Vondelpark is worth mentioning, as it gives good rooms in the centre of Amsterdam for a very reasonable price. More information on their website, but be quick with booking as their popularity grows steadily.

A Good Night's Sleep
This is a truly well run place. You walk into the comfortable, welcoming lobby to be greeted by friendly, English speaking staff. The rooms are simple, very clean, and well heated. Fresh plastic wrapped linen is provided. All in all, no worries here. The price isn't the cheapest in Amsterdam, but it's a good deal for the price range.
Individual guests and families
Rates include breakfast, bed linen and tourist tax. HI-members receive a discount of € 2,50 p.p.p.n.. For childeren up to and including 15 years this discount will always be given, irrespective of membership. Saturdays can be booked only in combination with Friday or Sunday night (2 nights minimum).

A Great Hostel! Great location!
The hostel was very clean. There were about 8 beds in my room with a shared washroom. (only 5 other people in room, I believe) There was a nice gathering place on the main floor, as well as an internet cafe. Very friendly service. I would highly recommend this hostel to anyone!
Unique Quality: The hostel is right beside a beautiful park (Vondelpark), as well as very close to a beautiful area of the city - the Leidse Plein. Within walking distance of the Van Gogh Museum and the Rijksmuseum.

Back Packer Central
This place is massive. And so organised. Each guest gets a security swipe card which enables access to your floor and entry into your room. I think they have 500 beds. The dorm rooms are just large enough, but expect to be sharing with 5 others. Lockers for your bags are supplied.
Unique Quality: This YHA had a very 'school camp' feel about it. I think it is very popular for european school excursions. Everything was modern and in working order. The buffet breakfast is big and has lots to choose from.
The larger of the two Dutch Youth Hostel Association (NJHC) hostels in Amsterdam, located adjacent to Vondelpark near the Leidseplein. It offers dormitories and individual rooms. Facilities include a TV-lounge, a kitchen, a bar and a restaurant. Elevator. No curfew.
Rates dormitories €21; double €51-€71.

Fantastic Setting
As hostles go (the ones I've been in anyway), this is definately one of the better ones. Fantastic location, great facilities and wonderful staff. Have recommended this place to a few people and have only heard great things back from them too.
Unique Quality: The hostle is right in Vondelpark, which is a fantastic place to chill in the summer.

City hostel for a cheap but good night(s)
More then 75.000 people come here every year from over the whole world. You can meet in the Brasserie Backpackers or the big lobby. All night there is a way to get something to eat or drink.
Unique Quality: The comfortable rooms have an electronical lock and all have their own bathroom. You have an own locker which can be locked with a hanglock (bring your own if you can).
All beds have a little lamp and the rooms are smokefree. A towel you can get if you pay for it or bring your own.

Stayokay Amsterdam Vondelpark Hostel
hello everyone,
anybody has any idea how this hostel is like? I will be in amsterdam for new year and will stay at this hostel for a few nights.
RE: Stayokay Amsterdam Vondelpark Hostel
It depends on what you like...if you are just looking for a place to crash after a busy day..then it will be fine for you. Some people warn about vondelpark..especially at night. I do not think it is really dangerous..it just sort of attracts people up to trouble. So if you are going to be out partying, you might wanna take a taxi back...or stay on busy streets (which on new years..is most streets!)
