Children's 'Playground'
by 36waterfalls
If you've read my tip on the Python Bridge, that connects Sporenburg with Borneo Island in the Amsterdam Eastern Docklands Area, you will have discovered how much I love this one!
My sweetest memory about this bridge is that it had children swinging from it!
For some reason (and I don't think this is legal!) there was a rope on the side of the Python and some kids jumped off the bridge swinging on it.
DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME!!!
But it was good fun watching ;-)
The city is not THAT big...

The city is not THAT big comparing to other capitals in Europe, Amsterdam has a population of roughly 900000 and it's easy to walk around downtown. Still the 'official' (so much known) way of moving in the city would be with a bicycle since everything has been done for that. A boat tour on the numerous channels is also something worth to do.
Apart the famous 'Red Light district' (entertainment) area, there's plenty of historic sites/museums/galleries to see, check a local website for details.
I would recommend an average stay of 3 nights/days to have a basic look at the city. Outside the city, some excursions can be done, I especially recommend a place called Koekenhof (?) where thousands of flowers are cultivated in a beautiful garden.

One thing that I thought was so cool about Amsterdam is how many house boats are there! It is like something I have never seen anywhere else. And many of the house boats addes a lot of charm to the canals.
Mondays

Be advised that many shops, restaurants & museums close on Monday,
We found a lot of the shops in the Nine little alleys closed as well as some eating places
I suppose the dutch deserve a rest day as well!!
It can be a bit unfortunate when you plan a long weekend so best to check that the museums you wish to visit are open on Monday.
