More about Amsterland Apartments

Day trip to Zandvoort

by davequ

Take a day and a quick train trip from A'Dam Centraal through Haarlem & Overveen to the beach at Zandvoort.

If you are lucky and the weather is as beautiful as it was for me, you will enjoy it very much.

On the train back you can:
wish you had a house in Overveen;
then stop in Haarlem for an excellent steak dinner at Wilma and Albert's & a side trip to Willie Wortel's.

An excellent day trip to escape Amsterdam for a change of pace.

Ouderkerk aan de Amstel

by Pijlmans

Not far from Amsterdam you will find the charming village Ouderkerk aan de Amstel. The village is divided in two parts by the river Amstel.

Ouderkerk aan the Amstel is a small village, about 200 years older than Amsterdam. It has many excellent restaurants, and some of them have their terraces at the waterside.

It is a good idea to escape Amsterdam for a moment and have lunch or dinner in this beautiful quiet village.

City to beach - the Beach Bus

by Britannia2

If you would like to escape Amsterdam on a hot summer day and need to use public transport a novel way to travel to the Dutch coast is by fast ferry and bus.
There are departures from Jetty 14 behind Centraal Station every 30 minutes on summer days - the fast ferry takes you to Velson in 30 minutes and from there a fast bus that meets the ferry and takes you on to Ijmuiden beach in just over 10 minutes.
The off peak fare is €7.50.
I have never made this trip but have seen the fast ferry and it looks very impressive. A very good idea for those who want to visit the coast. The website has more details.

Info needed on Amsterdam Escape and the Nieumarket area .

by Dlsch57

I have heard many wonderful comments about a Canal house called Amsterdam Escape. I am considering staying there next spring, however, I would like to know a little about the surroundings, especially the neighborhood. Is it located in a safe area of Amsterdam? I believe it is close to the Nieumarket area. Are there markets close by to buy food? Is it within walking distance to the Central train station? Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

Nieuwmarkt is next to the Red light district so in that way it might not be your thing. But it is very centrally located.
Nieuwmarkt square has a ware market on sat days and its also on the border of Amsterdams chinatown. Also there are lots of shops in the area to buy food, small specialty shops but also big supermarkets.

So it is up to you

I only can find the Amsterdam Escape apartments, which is not a houseboat.

The only other Escape at Amsterdam is a wellknown discotheque at the Rembrandt square.

If you are interested in renting a house boat look at: http://www.houseboathotel.nl/

I have stayed at Amsterdam Escape Apartments. Very nice. If your trip includes "smoking" and drinking, this is your type of place. Everything you need is withing walking distance. The neighborhood is safe... but right next to the RDL. Central Station is about a 10 minute walk. Dam Square is 5 minutes. I wouldn't recommend for a business or family trip. The management team there ia very accomodating. A+ staff. I will go back.

I know it's a bit off the track from Paris to Monpellier, bit the BASEL Carneval is really unique. If you are tight in time, best to travel to Basel (by train or air, the latter to Mulhouse EuroAirport) for arrival late on Sunday March 5. Leave the bags at the railway station locker, you won't need a bed, since the fiirst parade starts Monday morning at 4 am. The Carneval lasts for 3 days and nights until Thursday morning, but you may want to escape earlier for a rest in Monpellier.

It's not a "happening" but the Peace Memorial in Caen is very thoughtprovoking.

Clubbing in Amsterdam

by nakita002

Hi all :) from next saturday 17th till tuesday 20th a friend of mine...girl holiday :) We would like to make one night a clubnight. We have decided on Sundae @ Escape...what do you all think?
Does anyone know how much admission is and how muc the drinks cost from the club?
Also..what do you amsterdam people do after the party is over? :) Do you have an after-hours party and if so where are after-hours usually held?
We are staying at St. Christopher's at the Winston...is it far away to walk as i have heard that taxis are very expensive! Or maybe we should get a night bus...are they safe for 2 young female tourists in the dead of the night?
Thanks all in advance :)
Nakita

Actually, the Escape to your accomodation is very walkable, only 1.3 kms, and most of it along main streets that are well lit and usually busy.
Personally, I wouldn't be afraid to walk that bit.
Nightbus 355 from Rembrandtplein (Escape) to your accommodation runs until 03.45 pm on a Saturday, and it's a 3 minute ride. You get off at the Dam and walk 4 minutes to St. Christophers.

Escape is on Rembrandtplein, a square with many pubs and restaurants. But for afterparty probably there will be better advice from regular Amsterdam party-goers.

Cheers

www.escape.nl, click Agenda. Prices vary 10-15 euro depending on which night you're going.
Drinks, don't know. But you could contact them and ask.
Have you heard of Google? :-)
