Is Alprazolam, Diazepam or Clonazepam legal in Netherlands w/o prescription

by norelco

I am currently studying abroad and have a trip booked to Brussels and Amsterdam next week, however when I am there I will run out of my daily prescription for Klonopin.

Does anyone know if any of these benzodiazpines can be obtained in Amsterdam or Brussels without a prescription? I can't seem to find any information of this on the web.

I very, very much doubt it (these are serious medications) but do not know for 100% certain.

You do not say where you are presently based but if you are travelling next week, there should be no problem in getting your doctor to write a prescription which you can get made up before you go so that you can continue your medication whilst you are in Belgium and the Netherlands.

If you are from the UK (you do not give your citizenship) then your EHIC card will cover a visit to a Dutch or Belgian doctor and any prescription costs, although you may have to pay first and be refunded later. Check EHIC coverage here:

PJ and leics cover quite a bit of your question.

Personally, I have no definitive answer but I know for sure that it's easier to obtain certain prescribed medication in Belgium apothecaries than it is in The Netherlands. Have experienced that a few times already. But that didn't involve the kind of pills that you take.

Of course the best thing is to have enough medication with you to cover your travels. Especially with your medication.

no, I'm very sure you need a discription for all of them. You have to go to a doctor to get a discription.

Travel Tips for Amsterdam

When to go

by queenpud

No one goes to Amsterdam for the weather; it's rainy and windy for most of the year, although in summer there are beautiful evenings to be had sitting with a drink on a terrace beside a canal. On the other hand, from June through August the city centre is packed with tourists, leaving April (for the Tulip season) & May as the ideal time to go. Tulip fields in April......gorgeous

Busy Streets and Fast moving people

by Mishman

The most beautiful part of this city is the canals and their reflections of this old city and the many who have walked the streets before. I found that the relics were even noticeable in the pavement. Going down an alleyway either gave you an Indiana Jones feeling or the more Trainspotting effect. Being with close friends and getting to laugh at the way the Dutch live, but enjoying their customs without making fun of them. I found that having more than one person from home with you got the job done when it came to making plans.

Take a boat trip on the canals
See the night life and 'laides in red'
Volendam ..a small village in the harbour where in the summer people in there thousands flock through the narrow streets.People still dress in the traditional costumes The style of life, 'so relaxed and layed-back'
Miss the No 9 Tram into town !

So many places for a beer, a bite or other vices

by zrim

The narrow streets that comprise the Oude Zidje (Old Side), which includes the infamous Red Light District, contain enough bars, cafes, bistros and coffeehouses to satisfy anyone's desires for just about anything. Becky and I just stuck with beer and a rijstaffel (an Indonesian supper comprised of many (dozens) small intensely spiced dishes.

no addresses

by tompt

In the old days the adresses were not as good as they are today. The streets were known for famous buildings in it. Like church street or station street.
But the less known areas had no street names. The houses were identified by a stone in the facade. This stone had a picture of something, sometimes related to the business or the people living there.
This example, a calf, could be from a butcher or a rich landowner.
In fact there is not much known about this stone. Not the designer, or the year it was made, nothing.......
