Cozyness and elegance together

I stayed at the Wyndham Apollo because of a meeting I was attending in the RAI convention centre and this hotel is conveniently near to it. I discovered that it takes just a short ride by tram to get to the very lively Leidseplein and to the heart of the city.

Unique Quality: The exterior of this hotel is unempressive, but as soon as you get inside you find it very welcoming and elegant. I think that several elements contribute to the atmosphere. The furniture and decoration are important for sure, but I think the most important one is the light-reflecting expanse of water that you can see across the lobby and the bar.
Breakfast in the restaurant is particularly pleasant, thanks to the glass walls and the view you have from them.

In the middle of nowhere but nice

The Le Meridien Apollo is a nice hotel in the middle of nowhere. The rooms are good, the breakfast is not too nice, but the breakfast room is great! Overall a nice place, the only thing I dont like is that it is far away from everything in the city.

Hotel under French Flag

The five stars Le Meridien Apollo, is situated in the old and fashionable Amsterdam, where you have a unique view over the confluence of five canals.
The hotel has a private marina, where exclusive cocktail and dinner cruises are organised.

Unique Quality: Besides a wide range of conference facilities, hotel has an excellent seafood restaurant 'La Sirène' - which is ranked as a top 10 restaurant in Amsterdam - a lounge bar and a fitness centre.
It goes without saying that the hotel has 24-hour room service and that the rooms are air-conditioned, there is a minibar, tea and coffee making facilities, computer dataport and many other in-room amenities.

Overpriced

I stayed here in 2003 and although it is listed as one of the finer hotels in Amsterdam, it is overpriced. It has a really good lobby bar/cafe where you can get a quick bite. Good food and the service is fairly good. The rooms (even upgraded) was small and heat was controlled by turning on a central heat valve (no independent unit here), It took hours for the heat to pump to the radiator unit then to heat the room.

Unique Quality: Lobby lounge/cafe. (Paul the waiter speaks english as well as several languages-very helpful)

Le Meridien Apollo

We booked as part of a package paid for by loyalty card points so I didn't pay too much attention to the price. In our room the notice indicated that it could be up to £250 per night! Some tour operators do 3 nights for the price of 2 and a free upgrade to an executive room at less popular times of year.

Unique Quality: It doesn't look much from the outside but don't be put off by that. Inside the rooms and furnishings are of a high standard. We were lucky to enjoy the best hotel room we have ever had. It was a junior suite overlooking the canals. It is worth the supplement for a canal view - the picture is taken from our room. There is a very pleasant canal side terrace bar. The hotel is out of the centre in a mostly residential district but there are good tram connections.
