Poet and writer A. Roland Holst
by ATLC
The statue of a famous Dutch poet and writer, Roland Holst. Lived here from 9th November 1918 until his death in 1976. He became honorary citizen of Bergen in 1958.
One of his books I remember reading was Deirdre and the sons of Usnach. Pretty dramatic, I recall.

In the little hallway that lead to the toilets I saw these photographs.
Haha, I did draw some attention to my little person but I just loved this!
This is the Breelaan, taken about 1900. At the right the old inn called 'Duinvermaek'.
Taken at Whitsuntide, 1920. The Breelaan towards Bergen.
At the left 'Duinvermaek', built in 1913 under architecture of a local, J.C. van Leijen.
Women (at the left) standing in front of the barn, which was later demolished in 1929.
Next to it "Duinvermaek", also called 'The little lady of the dune'.
This was built in 1857.
Photograph taken in 1909.
