As usual a little difficult to find unless you can rely on your vision - which id arrived at night so couldnt see the castle from the A9 freeway - otherwise once you know its quite easy - when you come off it turn left at the first traffic lights and left again (even there amongst the trees the sign is tiny and if you have traffic behind you...)
When you arrive at the front door - and my room mate made a similar comment - theres still no sign to say if youre at the right entrance!
But otherwise once inside the place is roomy (everything is rather huge - doorways and doors - mostly still original - but the dorms are clean and comfortable with each having its own separate shower, loo and hand basin.
A bit expensive compared to the rest of Europe - not just this castle - but all the International Hostelling Association affiliated hostels - ie Stay Okay Hostels in the Netherlands are like 27 euro for a bed - less 2.50 euro reduction if you have a hostelling card - and it might even be a bunk in a shared room.
Breakfast is included though and usually a good buffet style so you can at least have quite a bit of choice and eat as much as youd like.
Its a proper castle though you cant go up onto a roof! You can go around the passageways and up and around the stairways from where you can look out the windows and down to moat below! and the towers above! and the main entrance, dining rooms and bar have original doors and windows.
The castle is set in a moat so that adds to the atmosphere. The old windows in my room could open and I realised I was directly square above the drawbridge and entrance way and had the monogrammes just below my window.
