Hi, we need accommodation in Hoorn - Noord Holland urgently. Preferably a cheap but comfortable accommodation. It may be a room to be rented by a family.

The dates are from August 3 to August 18, 2006.

Thnak you very much in advance!

Travel Tips for Hoorn

Real life windmill...

by CandS

This is our Dutch friend Bianca and myself with a real Dutch windmill in the background... :) It was great to see a 'wild' windmill...although I'm sure we were bound to see some windmills somewhere in Holland. :)

Around Town

by SceneE.R.A

Hoorn is a quiet northern town not far from the ijselmmer lake and is also a venue of the national ice skating championships that occur in Holland when the weather is cold enough to hold the event.

the town itself is fairly easy to get around and has a few decent shops and hotels as well as the traditional dutch bars and coffee shops.

the coffee shop "T'Boot" (The Boat) was the winner of the cannabis cup for 1996 and is situated near the town hall area about ten minutes walk north of the station by foot.

Hoorn also has a good selection of record shops and is about 25 minutes by train form Amsterdam. Black & White

Hoorn Markets

by CandS

If you get the chance then visit the Hoorn Markets...lots of goodies for sale and you will meet lots of locals... :)

They also have lots of lolly/sweets stands...yum...great for a sweet tooth like me! (although I must admit, I'm not sure I like the very common sour liquorice...hehe!)

Cycling around Hoorn

by pieter_jan_v

Hoorn and surroundings are great to explore by bicycle.

There are two National cycle routes passing through Hoorn:
-Route LF 21 that goes around the former Zuiderzee
-Route LF 59; the North Holland route Bicycle.

Grote Kerk

by OlafS

The Grote Kerk ('Great Church') was built in 1881-1883 after a predecessor had burned down in 1879. The church was designed by architect C. Muysken and is in neo-Renaissance style. It's no longer in use as a church, inside are now apartments and at least one shop.
