What is the weather like at the end of march, beginning of april?
by jbergs
I have a chance to go to Zaandam for the last week in March, and into April, if I take my daughter. Otherwise I can go alone later, in April or may. I would rather take my daughter, but don't want it to be uncomfortably cold. Any advice?

It does depend rather a lot on what you are used to: if you live in the tropics you will always feel cold in Holland, if you're from Northern regions you will feel it mild at end of March / April.
The weather in any part of Netherlands can be a lot of different conditions. There are no set patterns. Last year we had snow at Easter!
Normally the weather end of March / beginning of April is rather mild, with temperatures around 15 degrees C. in the daytime.
But it can also be around 10, or 20 degrees C.
As long as you don't intend to spend all your time outdoors, I think you will be fine with your daughter.
Just bring a sweater and a jacket and something for rain. Also prepair for windy conditions.
Have a great trip and stay, hope the weather behaves itself for you.

Travel Tips for Zaandam
Typical houses in the Zaanstreek
by tompt
The wooden houses of the Zaanstreek all have this green color. Green was, and still is, a color that lasts longer therefor it was cheaper to paint your house green and then wait longer to repaint. The Zaanstreek was not very rich, most of the people here were workmen in the industry. Today the city council oblige people to paint the houses in Zaangreen. I think i like the idea of keeping your heritage.

Want to see how Holland used to be around the 19th century? Take a look at Zaandam and the Zaanse Schans! You can see the old green coloured houses here, all types of mills (molens we call them in Dutch) and some museums.
Windmills

Throughout the centuries, the windmill has been the symbol of the Dutch fight against the water. Just enter to Zaanse Schans!
The Zaanse Schans is a reconstruction of a Zaans residential and working neighbourhood.

Even beerlabels stick to the green :-)

In this picture you see how well the beerlabels of Heineken and Brand beer fit in with the green buildings.
