The municipality of Montfoort includes the village Linschoten and has about 13500 inhabitants in 2008.
The river Hollandse IJssel flows through the city.
The website http://www.rhcrijnstreek.nl/ has a lot of historic information (in Dutch) about the city and surroundings.
There are several monuments that you can visit:
St Jan Church

Old Town Hall
Old City Gate IJsselpoort
Mill De Valk

You can combine a visit to Montfoort with a visit to the village Linschoten: A hike of 12 km along the river and through pasture connects the two places.
This hike is called the Engherkade route and is well marked so you will not get lost.
