Grocery Store in Utrecht

by JackGen

Where can our grandson (a student) purchase groceries for a "thanksgiving dinner" in Utrecht? This would be items like cranberries, pumpkin pie mix, etc.
He can possibly shop in person (on his bike) or have the items delivered. He lives on Cambridgelaan.

Would appreciate an early response. Thank you.

ok, so what is the difference between this question and clearly non-travel questions that have been happily answered recently in the travel forum? e.g. ancestory questions?

See for instance:

http://www.ah.nl/albertheijn/winkelinformatie?postcode=&plaats=utrecht

You can also order but some Dutch is required

I hope my reply will not be deleted because this post was reported by people who think it's more important to follow VT rules than to give good advice...

Cheers,
Dennis

There are 2 weekly Biological street marktets:
The first one at Wednesdays Noon - 5PM at the Leidsche Rijn-Parkwijk "Marktplein het Groene Sticht" (maybe a bit far out for him).
The second is at Fridays 10AM - 6PM at the Vredenburg in front of the Main Station (easy to get to for him)

For other groceries I'm sure he finds his way. The ALDI supermarket is very popular amongst the students at Utrecht.
see the map: http://www.opentot.nl/Aldi/Utrecht

The closest supermarkets to his campus address are:

Albert Heijn
Jan van Scorelstraat 138
3583CT Utrecht

and

Super De Boer
Adriaen van Ostadelaan
3583AJ Utrecht

... and there are some smaller shops along the Prins Hendriklaan.
All easy to cycle to (10 minutes or so).

Your grandson can go by train or with a friend to Kelly's Expat Shopping, Piet Heinstraat 105, 2518 CE 's-Gravenhage, 070 3469753 (also online shopping) (US products!)

or Jac Bostelaar, Steenweg 21-23, 3511 JL Utrecht (US & UK products in the citycentre of Utrecht).

Travel Tips for Utrecht

Utrecht Walk of fame

by IceBear7

Unfortunately I don't remember where exactly it was, but I loved looking at the Walk of Fame in Utrecht. It honours some famous Dutch actors, directores etc, they have there name on the street together with the print of their hand and their signature.

Even if you don't know any of the people, it is a great idea!

A peculiar museum in the centre.

by Pavlik_NL

Visit the peculiar museum 'Van Speelklok tot Pierement'. The Lowlands are famous for it's carrillons (symphonic churchbells), draaiorgels (streetorgans) and other automatic music-'boxes'. This museum shows you a wide range and you will be amazed about the Belgian Mortier-organs. Nora!

Die Nieuwe Gracht

by draguza

The New Canal, where no motorised shipping traffic is allowed, was originally dug as a residential canal. The narrow waterway and the lovely houses originating from the Seventeenth, Eighteenth and Nineteenth Centuries still point to this role.

Nice Walk

by Mique

If you want to do some relaxing, some walking and getting away from the city centre..you can easily do that. There is a nice little park alongside the Vaartse Rijn on the city side. The Vaartse Rijn encloses almost or even a bit more then half the city centre.

Opposite Catharijnesingel or Tolsteegsingel/Maliesingel
