De Berk: Bed and Breakfast Middelburg

We stayed two nights in this wonderful Bed and Breakfast called "De Berk". The name refers to the tree in front of the house, a birch ("berk" in Dutch).

The B&B is located in a small house next to that of the owners and has two floors. The accommodation has its own entrance. Shower, sink and toilet are at ground level. The bedroom (with up to three beds) and a small room with a table for breakfast are at the first floor.

When the weather allows it, you can have the excellent breakfast outside in the beautiful garden as well.

The accommodation is quite new (2008) and has been tastefully decorated.

Smoking is not allowed, also not outside. Pets are welcome.

Great accommodation, excellent breakfast, hospitable and friendly owners

Kasteel Westhove: Stay in a Dutch Castle out in the country

I would strongly recommend this place as its a wonderful opportunity to stay in a historic buildiing being a medieval castle.
The place was in good condition, clean and nice staff.
Being a youth hostel lots of young travellers ie a school group, were there but the place is roomy and i had a great room with the moat water just out the window so it all felt very exciting and historic.

Its a medieval castle - the small squattish sort not the huge mighty castle sort - almost really a fortified house with moat. but lovely. and in a lovely spot with trees and countryside around. i would love to go back.
and it was cheap youth hostel prices.
It might still not be open over the winter months though - check on line or your youth hostel book for europe (ive lent mine to a friend!)!

Family hotel Roelant: Family hotel Roelant

A very simple hotel which can hold 23 guests at the most. All rooms are different. Basic comfort but clean. The hotel is situated in a quiet street with stately homes. Next door is a restaurant which is well recommended by the local tourist office.

Rates per person (2005) at 37 euro. Mind that there is no elevator and the stairs (2 flights if you're unlucky) are steep.

Camping Middelburg: A campground in the town

Not the biggest campground I have ever seen but it's nice that it is really in the town. By foot it will cost you less than 15 minutes to be at the Markt (the town centre) By bicycle less than 5 minutes....

CAMPING MIDDELBURG: ALWAYS NICE......

In SUMMER (spring and autum) this area is a camping ground and a nice one.

It is wonderfully situated because it is quiet and yet it is easy to walk to town, to the shops, the market......

The camping itself also has a shop near the entrance.

No problems parking your car and the camping ground is for tents and caravans.

If you don't have a tent of caravan you always have the opportunity here to rent a so-called TREKKERSHUT, a simple roof-over-your-head-place which is great for backpackers e.g..

Now I have to tell you that in WINTER this camping ground is our skating rink! there is always a layer of water ready to freeze over during below zero nights................and oh, gosh, when there is ice, there is music too and a KOEK & ZOPIE: a place to buy hot chocolate and mugs of thick pea-soup!

And most important it that this camping ground cum ice rink is 5 minutes from my house!

DE HUIFKAR: A GOOD NIGHT'S SLEEP.....

This Brasserie - hotel is located at the Markt, in the very heart of Middelburg, in the PEDESTRIANS ONLY area.

For over 75 years already this is THE address for an excellent room and an excellent meal in a pleasant ambience.

It is wise to make reservations because lots of people know about this place ..........

It is also a popular, well-liked place for a snack, a coffee or cold drink before or after shopping in the Lange Delft, which is nearby.
