Vlissingen-Breskens Ferry Schedule

by jgaitan

Would anyone know how late the ferry to Breskens runs in June 2008? We are planning on taking the train from Amsterdam to Vlissingen and then taking the ferry over to Breskens to board a sailboat in the harbor. Also, would anyone know the cost for foot passengers: 1 adult, two 15 year olds?

Thanks.

It's a 3 minute walk from Vlissingen train station to the Vlissingen ferry.
The boat trip is 33 minutes.
A single trip is 2,55/1,60 euro for adult/child under 12.

The ferries run twice per hour, at 17 and 52 minutes past every hour.
From 6.52 am to 9.52 pm, and additionally at 5.42 am, each weekday.
Weekends, the first ferry leaves at 7.52 am.
Weekdays, the ferries run once per hour from 7.52 pm.
Weekends, the ferris run once per hour from 5.52 pm.

So far for the schedule.

There has been known trouble with the ferry boats and sometimes only one is in operation, cutting down service to half.

Be aware that at rush hours people with monthly passes has the right of way to people with day tickets only.

In the case there´s no service (storm), there will be an alternative transport by bus, but the travel time can be up to 1 hour in that case.

Travel Tips for Vlissingen

Rush Hour

by 36waterfalls

Vlissingen is near the North Sea, but still situated in a narrow passage called Westerschelde. Heavy 'traffic' passes here to and from the Port of Antwerp.
I thought it the weirdest thing to watch children play on the beach (or in the water in Summer) while containerships are only a short distance away.
There are big signs on the beach warning people for big waves.

More snacks at the Boulevard

by pieter_jan_v about Toon's Kiosk and Snackbar

Toon's Kiosk and Snackbar is strategically located at the newest part of the boulevard.
It's a combination of a souvenir etc shop and a Dutch snackbar.

I found the food quality just outside the red figures (seems to be the Vlissingen average by the way).

There are some first row screened seats, great for people and ships wathching, so no complaints about fast food! Haven't discovered that one yet.

Lampsinhuis

by 36waterfalls

Cornelis Lampsin was owner of over a dozen ships and did well for himself. He had this house built in 1641. His commerce paid him rather nicely: he even owned the Island of Tobago in the Caribean. He was also the first man in Vlissingen to enjoy a ride in his own 4-horse drawn carriage.
The harbour here on Nieuwendijk was the busiest part of town during the 17th century and from the tower on top of his house Lampsins could keep an eye on his ships and cargo.

This beautifully restored building now houses muZEE, a museum dedicated to the sea.
Inside you´ll find exhibits on maritime history from 15th-20th century, divided in 4 themes: water, work, glory and adventure.

Opening times: Mon-Fri 10-17
Weekend: 13-17

Entrance fee: €8

Statue Michiel de Ruyter

by 36waterfalls

Born in Vlissingen in 1607, this is one of the most well-known dutch historical figures.
He started life as a fisherman's boy, became a sailor when only 11 years old, worked his way up in the navy until he became Admiral for the Dutch Fleet. He shot to fame in the battles against England which led to peace between the two countries.
In 1676 Michiel de Ruyter died in battle against the French.
He lies buried in the New Church in Amsterdam, the city that gave him his position in the navy.
