Travel Tips for Zierikzee

City hall

by BeaYong

This city hall building was build in the 14th century, and rebuild in the 16th and 18th century. On top of the tower stands "neptune " king of the sea. (in gold!)
In this city hall is a museum.
Many of the couples (including me) got married here. With the historical decorations inside , is this city hall building a very romantic place for a wedding ceremony!!

Zierikzee, a small city with monumental value

by Luchonda

"Monumental little city - with a great history"

Zierikzee is a small city, located on the former island of Duiveland in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It is a part of the municipality of Schouwen-Duiveland, and lies about 26 km southwest of Hellevoetsluis and 60 km from Vlissingen.
Zierikzee has a few of Dutch monumental landmarks, like the two mills, still active - "Den Haas - De Hoop"
The facade of the maritime museum, the narrow streets and cute houses gave me a first impression and made my day, although the time was limited, the town is encharming - but i will go back

"Typical scénary in Zeeland"

The land of water, canals and boating. Very interesting place to visit after a day of sailing in Bruinisse

"Windmill "Den Haas""

After diner in Brasserie Maritime, i took the opportunity to picture the mill, by night

Zierikzee, the monumental town of Zeeland

"Excuse me ... I need some time first"

Sorry, thousand times sorry. However much I would like to only sit behind my pc and finish all my pages about the recent travels, my priorities lay with Irina and Ilja first. No doubt, slowly but steadily, these pages also will be filled with tips, travelogues and pictures. But, if you have any questions in the meantime, feel free to ask me by mail and I will immediately try to answer you.

"The place where I was born,"

This beautiful historical town was created in the 9th century. It is in the top 10 list of oldest monumental city's in the netherlands. The house of Tempelieren is the oldest house of Zierikzee( 15th century). One of my ancestors lived there, he was a coppersmith.

I'm hoping to move back to Zierikzee in a few years time.

"Old times are not forgotten......"

Zierikzee is one of the oldest towns in the Netherlands. Got cityrights in 1248.
On the picture is the "Nobelpoort ", it was build in the 14th century. Because of the many old buildings that are kept in original style, Zierikzee is called a Monumental town.

Zeeland is in the southern part of the Netherlands, and most of it is water ! A big part of the island was flooded in 1953. After 1953 they build dams and bridges. One of the famous is the Delta works, which is located 20 minutes drive from Zierikzee.
