Delft, ancient VOC-town.
by Pavlik_NL
Delft, ancient VOC-town and the place where many ship sailed away towards the Dutch Indies or any other colony far, far away.
Delft is beautiful and compact with it's old buildings along the canals. It is also the Royal Town, intensively connected with the Dutch family Van Oranje-Nassau.
Delft is famous for it's earthware-pottery, caloured white and blue. It set an example to many porselan from all over the world.
Delft is also a very young town, because of the Technical University that has it's basis here.
Delft, in my opinion the most complete Holland town within the Netherlands. My Godparents (in Dutch "Peter" and "Meter"), that live in this town and with whome I have a very warm relationship.
The house where Vermeer was born?
by michelle_x11
Apparently this house behind the main market is supposed to be where the artist was born and lived, but the guide explained something i didn't quite understand about the fact that his real house had burned and they moved the plaque to something approximate... Pancakes with fresh cherries and sour cream!!!
Blue Delft Porcelaine

De Porceleyne Fles’ is the last remaining Delftware factory from the 17th century. The world famous Royal Delftware is still entirely hand painted according to centuries old traditions and techniques.
