Zicht op de Schie was our first B&B in the Netherlands, and so we were a bit surprised that there is not so much contact between the owners and the guests as there is in England. Being used to B&B owners having a chat with you every time they see you, Zicht op de Schie felt a bit less warm, but we later found that this is true for all the Dutch B&Bs. And it's not that the owners were unfriendly - the man was very helpful and gave us a lot of tips when we arrived, the woman bade us a friendly goodbye at the end of our stay.
Anyway, back to the actual B&B. It's a bit hard to find as there is no obvious sign on the building which, by the way, is a regular apartment block. You have to look closely to see the handmade sign in the window. The room was a bit austere-looking as it doesn't have a carpet, but apart from that it was nice. The bathroom was very nice. Breakfast is served in the room on a big table, and it is very good. The owners take care that fresh fruit are part of the breakfast every morning. Another good thing about the B&B is its location. Within 10min you've walked into the city centre or to the station, within 5 minutes by car you've reached the highway. As it is just next to river Schie, you can watch the barges pass by in front of the house.
Altogether a nice B&B and quite recommendable for a stay in Delft.
Directions: Leave the A13 at Exit 10 (Delft-Zuid) and follow Kruithuisweg until you cross the river Schie (ca. 700m). Turn right directly afterwards and follow the road through the industrial zone until you see the first bridge crossing the river. To your left are a few department stores and a small parking lot. It's the first building behind the parking lot.
very good breakfast, good location
We stayed one night at the hotel restaurant 't Raedthuy. The place is a pancake house with a few rooms for rent above the restaurant. It is located on the main town square. We had a wonderful view of the square from our room. There was the town hall on one side and a church on the other side of the square. The room was clean and the beds very comfortable. The staff was very friendly. Excellent location. We truly enjoyed our stay.
't Raedthuy's has the best pancakes in town!
Of course, Delft has several hotels itself, but this town can be easily visited from the more frequently used hotels in The Hague or Rotterdam. Also on a business trip it is very nice to take a trip to Delft as it will add many extra experiences of the old historical Holland and it's traditions and culture. Through my transporttips one can find out how to travel between these locations.
We ourselves have the luck to have family living here in Delft, where we like to stay and are always warmly welcomed.
