Villa Augustus: Dordrecht's best place to stay
This hotel isn't just a place to stay the night, it's an experience! Situated in an old watertower this hotel offers peace and quite, great views, fantastic (organic and home-grown) food, intimacy, good rooms and value for money.
The hotel is not so big (37 rooms) and has a hip, funky restaurant (with shop) in the building where the old waterpumps used to be. The owners tried to keep as much original features in the buildings, and at the same time modernize it completely. And succeeded in that very well!
The rooms are spaceous, the shower is fan-tas-tic (I want such one too!) and the bath was big. Every room has a flatscreen tv (nice) and a good bed. They used orignal features (eg. old doors of the building) to create wall panelling, and quirky furniture. The rooms were warm enough to be comfortable, but not too warm (to keep you out of your sleep at night - which sometimes happens in those airconditioned hotels) and were above all very clean. I couldn't find anything that was a bit shabby or broken (apart from a crack in the glass lamp).
Outside the hotel there's a very nice and well-kept garden in which vegetables and herbs are grown and used in the restaurant. You can even buy some in their own shop. The owners also use a lot of vegetables grown by farmers in the surroundings of Dordrecht. And you can taste that. The garden is situated on the riverside of the hotel, so you also have a great view.
The hotel itself is situated away from the city centre. The surrounding area is a mixture of industrial buildings (quite ugly) and normal houses. But when you stay in the hotel you don't see any of that (strangely enough). It's a 15 - 20 minute walk to the city centre (tip: take a bus). The hotel doesn't have a lot of parking space, but there's a big parking lot just 2 minutes away from the hotel.
We (my husband and me) stayed in a room for one night for 145 euros (breakfast - 12,50 euros per person - not included) on the norhtwest side of the hotel (view: gardens and river) and are already planning on staying again in late summer. I look forward to see how the gardens look then

i stayed in a hotel half an hour out of Dordrecht called the BudgetHotel. You catch the local bus to the last bus stop and the driver rings for a taxi for you to take you to the hotel
Unique Quality: 43.50 euro including breakfast and they ask you if you would like to have the 3 course meal for dinner there when you check in because the hotel is quite a bit out of town, and that meal is an extra 14.0 euro,a bargain foe such a lovely meal
