Typical holiday inn hotel...very americanised surroundings. Decent buffet breakfast and dinner.
Shuttle bus available from hotel to Leiden train station on weekdays.
You can also catch a bus within a few mins walk from the hotel to Leiden train station.
You can request for the front office to call you a cab too.
After visiting this hotel for dinner, I wanted to update this tip.
This is just a regular, modern Holiday Inn outside the center. Although I have not been to any of the rooms, the lobby is nice and there is a bar which also looks very good. There is a relatively large swimming pool as well.
Although it is located outside the center (about 5-10 minutes ride to the center), there are some free shuttle buses which will take you there, and it is only a short walk away from the "transferium", which is a bus hub/terminal, so you can go to Leiden or any other place from there.
It is not the best option if you feel like going for a walk in the evenings as it is very isolated and there is nothing around to see.
However, should you need a place that allows you to move around, this is very convenient as, in addition to being close to the transferium, it is just next to the entrance to the A44 highway that leads to Amsterdam or The Hague and on the N206 that leads to Katwijk or Noordwijk (it takes about 15-20 minutes to get there)
There is also a place to park your car, which is not usually the case in the center.
Rates from about 75 Eur.
I had the chance to go there for dinner, during the lobster festival, a 35Eur all-you-can-eat feast that takes place a couple of weeks a year - see website for details, and I was assured it was excellent. Since I don't like lobster, I had a very nice steak, which at 27 Eur seemed to have less value-for-money than the crustacean, but still a good choice.
Though I haven't stayed in this hotel I have used it's sports facilities and therefore know the atmosfere and state of it.
Rooms are standard Holiday in rooms, pretty big, nice and clean.
Staff is friendly and i have heard the sunday buffet is nice.
Unique Quality: It has been remodeled in the past years and now that the rubish has been cleared a very nice hotel was hiding under it.
It has a mini gyo, raquetball and a nice pool and sauna.
This hotel is close to Leiden it'd be a 5 minute bikeride to the center, or 15 minute walk, buses stop nearby
It is close to the tulipfields (late april, mid may)
And close to the railway station.
Nice hotel also when travelling with kids.
Personally I'd choose something more in the city center however. But that's the only con.

How far is Webster University from from the central station? How do I get from Amersterdam to Leiden?
Hello,
See here: http://www.webster.nl/contact/route
Or plan your route with http://journeyplanner.9292.nl/
Cheers
Dennis
I'm familiar with this walk, so off by heart:
It's a 10-15 minute walk from Leiden Central to the Webster University.
Exit train station via main entrance, walk all the way down Stationsstraat, cross bridge, keep straigth on along Steenstraat, cross bridge, turn right onto Prinsessekade, cross second bridge, turn directly left after 2nd bridge onto Boommarkt. You'll find the university building on your left along the water at no. 1 Boommarkt.
Amsterdam-Leiden is a simple train ride. Use the english version of www.ns.nl for schedules and prices.
Thanks so much. Do you know how far the walk is from the Holiday Inn-Leiden to Webster University? I am going to be studying there for two weeks and really don't want to pay a lot for the housing that is offered.
check www.journeyplanner.9292.nl for bus schedules.
The Holiday Inn is outside the city center and busses are also a little walk from there AND always end at Central Station, meaning you are still left with the 12 minute walk to Webster, as I described above. I suggest you rent a bike at Central Station for the 2 week period or maybe the hotel provides one. It's way easiest and convenient as well as very Dutch!
Hi, I checked that website, but it wouldn't work for me. I don't know. What do you think about me getting a hotel at the Amsterdam Shipol Airport, which I could get a discount on, and take the train for 10 days to Leiden and walk the 12 minutes to the school from the city center. How much are the train tickets, if you know? Thanks
