Sint Nicolaashoeve: Sint Nicolaashoeve
The Sint Nicolaashoeve in Nieuwveen is an active farm. The stately farm was built in 1858. More than 100 years ago the farm also served as a refuge house for retired servants. De rooms that used to be for them have been rebuilt in luxury apartments: two 4-person apartments in the attic, and in the summerhouse, next to the farm, a 4-person and a 2-person apartment.
From our apartment we had a beautiful view on the pretty church and the surrounding pastures.
The large apartments (we rented the two apartments on the attic) have 2 spacious bedrooms, a small bathroom with shower and a small living/dining room with kitchenette (with dishwasher). A washer/dried is available in the public area, next to the apartments.
You can actively help with farming if that is what you want. It must be great fun for children. They can even obtain an 'official' degree in farming!

Sint Nicolaashoeve: Stay at a farm
This farm is so close to our home ( 15 minutes walk) , we never stayed here ourselves. But in december 2005 a few VT friends from Belgium visited the area an stayed here for the weekend.
We rented 2 appartments in this farm. Each appartment have 4 beds, a bathroom with shower, a kitchen and a livingroom. The appartments were above the stables. Being december the cows were inside, and you could smell that!
The farmer was very nice and allowed the group to use a larger conference room, where they could play tabletennis and the all dutch game of sjoelen.
Real rural, sleeping above the stable. Own entrance, open all day and night.
The farm has a unique history. In the old days this farm was used as a shelter for old and sometimes disabled farmhelps. They were housed and fed here in return they did some work at the farm and had to go to church.
The only downside is the airplanes going to Schiphol airport that seem to be a little bit too low here.........
