Sacrifice Of The Be-killed
by RoyJava
This beautiful war-monument you can find in Noordwijk. It is designed by sculptor Corinne Franzen-Heslenfeld, born in The Hague, and, placed in Noordwijk on November 15th. 1952.
It is all made of white, natural stone and the young woman kneels with naked upper part of the body. She is in total devotion, looking down. She is partly Dutch, and partly Indonesian (named an Indo, or half-cast). The statue want to express her alliance with the war-victims of the colony of Dutch-Indies who gave their lives in freedom (1945-1950). The kneeling young Indo woman symbolizes this sacrifice with her body and attitude ... next to this war-monument is the socle, made of white, natural stone, too. Included the words of the prominent Wim Ramaker and Ben van Bohemen.
It is located on a small square, at the corner of the Rembrandtweg and the Berckelstraat, Noordwijk.
Seaside Resort Noordwijk
by RoyJava
"Number Three"
As far as I know this little seaside resort used to be a small village named Noordwijk where there is nothing to do. Sorry Madame Noordwijk for that conclusion! Apologize for that!
For now I do know Noordwijk already existed 2000 years BC (!!!) and the first citizens, probably fishermen, lived there around 1200 AD. It was written down as "Norwige, Northeke, Norwik", and some other simular names. And around 1860 Noordwijk became a seaside resort for the rich and famous who specially came for the medical sea-water of the North Sea ... just like in Scheveningen near The Hague.
Noordwijk turned into number three seaside resort and got famous for its flowers all around, named the Bollenstreek (Area for Flower). My elder pictures of Noordwijk I lost, and returned on a very cloudy day with a beautiful, dramatic, really Dutch grey background ... I promise to place some sunny photographs soon, ok?
Thanks anyway for visiting
