Travel Tips for Noordwijk aan Zee

Unpredictable dutch weather

by csordila

Dutch weather in Summer is fairly unpredictable with an average daytime temperature of 10 (ten) to 30(thirty) C°!!!!!!
The climate here is maritime with a lot of wind and rain. You really need a water-proof jacket, since the combination of rain and wind makes an umbrella impractical, except for umbrella shops.
A good summer has periods of several days of fine weather followed by two or more days of thunderstorms. Be prepared for either sun, clouds, rain showers, periods with sustained rain, or thunder storms or, even on a single day, any mixture of these. However, the air freshens up after that, unlike other parts of the world, which then resemble saunas.

In spite of that Noordwijk aan Zee is the most beautiful sea-side resort of the Netherlands.

Knotted Willow Trees

by RoyJava

Walking around we bumped onto this remarkable willow trees.

The willow-tree is famous ofcourse for its vitality and elasticity. You can bend its branches without breaking like bamboo. And put a branch into a ground and, you will get soon some leaves ...

But the willow-tree is also well-known as "tree of death". Maybe because the willow-tree absorbs all of the water around creating dry land. These willow-trees we bumped onto, looked so weird. Knotty, gnarly, crooked, curved, rusty, wrinkled ...

The dark clouds invigorated the energy around and ... some further on there was a graveyard ... so not particulary a place to dwell after midnight!

So watch your step in Noordwijk.

Sand dunes

"Rich city!!"

Noordwijk aan Zee was founded around 1200 as a fishing village. Until the beginning of the 19th century, fishing remained its primary business, but then began to be replaced by the growing tourism industry. Nowadays because of its long sandy beaches, it is a popular resort town with 1,000,000 overnight stays per year.

Noordwijk aan Zee is rated as the 12th richest location in the Netherlands.

Noordwijk, Zuid-Holland

by Heinisuo

Noordwijk was home for me from the beginning of March till the end of May in 2003.
I did my job/training on weekdays and travelled around on weekends.

"Noordwijk in Brief"

Noordwijk is rather small town on the coast of the North Sea approximately 10-15 kilometers from Leiden. It's located in the province of Zuid-Holland in the middle of (famous) flower growing area, which can really be seen in it's surroundings and happenings. Noordwijk is "divided" into two distinguish parts: Noordwijk-Binnen and Noordwijk aan Zee. Noordwijk-Binnen is more quiet part of the town located more inland (as you could guess from it's name). Noordwijk aan Zee is located nearby the coast (as you could also guess from it's name). It is highly populated with hotels and restaurants and is very popular tourist attraction mainly because of its 13 km long beach. During the summer (and spring) time Noordwijk is full of tourists, but it gets more quiet during the winter.
