Now the Crown!

friendly and comfortable hotel a short walk or tram ride from the centre.
Smallish but clean and comfortable room for us and a decent buffet breakfast included in the price.
Several restaurants and bars within a couple of minutes walk.
Happy to revisit here sometime.

Hotel and Train travel to North Sea Jazz Festival

by solsis

Hi!
Please could you give me advice on good 3 or 4 star hotels in Rotterdam or Ahoy.I would like a central hotel near train station if in Rotterdam or a hotel in Ahoy near North Sea Jazz Festival.
What time is the last train running from Ahoy to Rotterdam?.Are they 24 hours? .
Many thanks.

Are all in the citycentre. And close to public transportation and easy to reach Ahoy. (The others are not).

Also a very nice hotel in the city centre is Hotel Bazar http://www.bazarrotterdam.nl/opener.asp?language=EN

Under the hotel is a very trendy restaurant also called Bazar.

There is no train from Rotterdam to Ahoy you will have to take the metro. Its just 8 min. from Rotterdam Central. The last train stops around 00.15 or 00.30am.

best location for a hotel

by emalendur

Hey!
I shall come with my girlfriend to Rotterdam for the big jazz event: http://www.northseajazz.nl/index.en.asp
In the morning and during daytime we would like to make short trips to Utrecht, Delft etc
Now here's our question - which area would you reccommend for the accommodation?
The jazz festival seems to take place not in the centre... But train station seems to be in the centre...
If you can name any (not expensive) hotel or B&B, we would be very thankful!

The Northsea Jazz Festival recommends hotels; see: http://www.northseajazz.nl/nsj49.en.html

Cheers for the quick answer!

But the thing is that I'm not having trouble in finding different hotels online. The problem is that I'd like to get some information on Rotterdam districts - which would be the best area to stay if we need to commute most often to and from the festival, train station and a hotel... That is the tricky part as we are absolutely not familiar with the city.

A hotel in the city centre of Rotterdam would be the best for you. Close to the trainstation and metrostation. The jazz festival at Ahoy is just 10 min. by metro.

It's a couple of blocks North of the Central Train station in Rotterdam, see:

http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?client=public&X=498000&Y=6754000.92929071&width=700&height=400&gride=497732&gridn=6753845.92929071&srec=0&coordsys=mercator&db=NL&addr1=&addr2=Schiekade+658&addr3=Rotterdam&pc=&advanced=&local=&localinfosel=&kw=&inmap=&table=&ovtype=&zm=1&scale=50000

The major attractions are South of the station; see the purple names on the map.

I would strongly recommend Hotel Bazar. It is very much in the center of Rotterdam, better than Hotel Pax which is a bit out of the center and not as nicely located (along a main road).
Hotel Bazar is a 15 minute walk from the station or take tramline 5, stop at Witte de Withstraat.

The English version of the website is not online yet, but have a look at
http://bazar.levir.nl/intro.asp

and the address info is:

HOTEL BAZAR Witte de Withstraat 16 3012 BP ROTTERDAM The Netherlands

For information and reservations:
0031-(0)10-2065151

Furthermore I have an accomodation tip about this hotel at my Rotterdam page. Witte de Withstraat is a street full of restaurants and galleries as well as 5-10 minutes to many of the main museums and the other way 5 minutes walk to the inner city (Town Hall, main shopping area, theatres, cinema's etc.).

Rotterdam?! Me too!

The same struggle about hotel location was a trip-planning problem for me. The problem ended when I stumbled onto an online mapping website (the equivelent of MAPQUEST here in the USA).

Recommendation: Use URL (below) to locate spots you plan to visit. Then, start mapping hotels. Goede reis!
