    Very nice hotel

    by

In December 2013 we stayed here for one night in the new "Mainport" area of the hotel. A very nice cleam room with a view at the main street. Unfortunately due to the shape of the room, the bed area felt a little small and we could not properly put the our bag on the floor.

Unique Quality: The breakfast was very good and had an excellent choice and a variety of foods. Nice bar.
TV on the bathroom (with jacuzi).

Directions: Near "scheepvaart museum" and bridge, just on the opposite side of the cruise terminal.

    Formerly the Golden Tulip

    by

When we stayed here, this was called the Golden Tulip.

We checked in and even though it was early in the day, they had a room ready. We got a cart and went up the elevator and took the suitcases up to the room, which was a nice waterside room looking out on the canal.

However it had a queen bed, and my granddaughter pitched a fit about sleeping in the same bed as me. So I went back down to the reception desk and switched to a twin bed room which was streetside. Both rooms were 125 euros for the night

Unique Quality: In addition to free wi-fi through the hotel, there was a place to use their computers down in the lobby. This is a non-smoking hotel

In the room we had a small table by the window with snacks on it (snacks not free), a small TV (including CNN and in-house movies), in-room personal safe and mini-bar, and a very nice bathroom. Breakfast the next morning was 18 euros, and we also had lunch here after we got back from Kinderdijk. The restaurant looked out on the canal and we could see a drawbridge opening sometimes from there. There was a trolley/metro stop out front and the view from our room of the street was interesting.

Directions: at the bank of the Maas and at the foot of the Erasmus bridge.

In the midst of it all: Inntel Hotel

    by

This hotel is located at the Leuvehaven, which now is the Museum Harbor.
To the South you have a great view and direct entrance to the Erasmus bridge and to the West you enter center city.

2009 Update: At the river side the Hotel has been extended with a new wing tower.
At the groundfloor a bar-restaurant is added with a great outside view.

Unique Quality: Got a nice deal for a last minute booking for 2 persons for just 60 Euro (excluding parking and city taxes).

Directions: Just follow signs CENTRUM, you cannot miss the Erasmus bridge. It's just North of there.
If you come by car, don't pass the hotel, but make a very sharp turn to the right at the main entrance to the parking down ramp.

Kinderdijk Tour

by grandmaR

We are going to be landing from a cruise ship in Rotterdam in the morning of June 24th, and would like to go to Kinderdijk on some kind of tour. I do not think I will have the energy on day 15 of an 18 day trip to be hopping on and off public transportation. We have to get off the ship and get to our hotel (the Golden Tulip and drop our luggage off before we take the tour, and we want to be back for the VT meeting at 7:30.

It looks like there are two possibilities for a boat tour

1. Canal Tour: 30-minutes which takes you along a row of windmills fully-narrated tour. The first tour is at 10:00 am, and the last one departs at 5:00 pm. This looks very flexible.

Does this leave from Kinderdijk?

2. Boat Excursion on the "Nehalennia" - this leaves at 10:45 am and 2:15pm. Refreshments are sold, but it only stays at the dock for 45 minutes before returning to Rotterdam. I'm told that 45 minutes is not sufficient for the Canal tour and to visit a windmill. Also I'm not sure whether I could get there by 10:45, and the 2:15 is too late.

Are there any other tours that go out there that would leave us enough time for the canal tour and to see the windmill?

hi there,
I'll look into it. If my work schedule permits, I may join you. Rather feel like an outing to Kinderdijk myself. No promises though :-)

That would be terrific.
