Small hotel

Good small hotel. Rooms were very clean. Situated in a good neighbourhood and when you have a room at the backside it's very quiet. Metrostation at only 300 mtrs.
Breakfast could be better. There was not much choice.
Difficult to park your car.

No direct trains. Minimum 1 change at Bruxelles-Midi.

You can find timetables on German Rail website, but unfortunately no prices.

You can take Eurolines bus from Rotterdam to Paris (from EUR 20) and the local transport to CDG. Booking at: http://webapp.eurolines.nl/?lang=ENG

www.thalys.com lets you book tickets for the Thalys train. You can board in Rotterdam and it goes to Paris Nord station. The trip is just over 3 hours. If you book well in advance you may find cheap rates as low as 25 euro (single trip), though the rate goes up fast if you book closer to the travel date.

From Paris Nord you will have to take a train or metro to a different station and from there to CDG.

Travel Tips for Rotterdam

Parking can be a problem

by Pieter11

Parking in Rotterdam can be a problem if you are not prepared on it:

Paying for your parking ticket is only possible with a chip-card or with a Visa or Mastercard. Coins are not accepted anymore, because the ticket machines were often destroyed to get the coins out. This system ends this problem.

So be sure you have your Chipknip, Mastercard or Visacard with you when you visit Rotterdam.

Spido boat trip

by martin_nl

If you ever come to Rotterdam you've got to take the Spido boat trip. There are trips of 1 1/2 hours and a day trip. This way you can see the world's largest harbour, the europort, as well as quite some sights of Rotterdam.

Rotterdam, city of high rise buildings

by sachara

Arriving in Rotterdam by train, you are directly confronted with the high rise buildings of the city.

Delftse Poort
From the platfroms you will have even the first view at the highest building of the city, the so-called Delftse Poort. This building of 42 floors, designed by architect A. Bonnema and finished in 1991, is 151.35m high (with antenne 164m.). This building, housing the headquarters of the Nationale Nederlanden insurance company, is not only the highest building of Rotterdam, but also of the Netherlands. In 2004 it has been selected by the 'Foundation Hoogbouw' as the best skyscraper of the Netherlands. (Picture 1)

Montevideo
The second highest building of Rotterdam Montevideo having 43 floors is 139.5m high (with the 'M' at top 152.31m). This one is designed by Mecanoo Architects and finished in 2005. Montevideo with apartments and offices stands at the Kop of Zuid, besides the Hotel New York. (Picture 2)

Milleniumtower
The third highest building is the Milleniumtower of 131.85m. (with mast 149m.) of 34 floors, built in 2000. This building stands opposite the Central Railwaystation. (Picture 3)

World Port Center
The fourth highest building is the World Port Center at the Kop of Zuid close to Montevideo and Hotel New York with 123.06m (with mast 138m.), built in 2000. (Picture 4). It was special to sleep in the Westin hotel in the Millenium Tower, one of three highest buildings of Rotterdam, during my visit in summer 2006. The Millenium Tower is also called a look-a-like of the Empire State Building in NYC, as Rotterdam is called Manhattan on the Maas.

City hall square

by MATIM

Satadhuisplein, with its many bars and pavement cafés, is a popular palce for both locals and visitors to gather. Situated prominently in the middle of the square, Mari Andriessen’s war memorial monument voor de gevallenen’ consists of two men, a woman and a child. Representing the past, present and future.
The resistance monument is tribute to the people of Rotterdam who sacrificed their lives for the liberation of the country during World War 11.
On 15 July 1915, queen Wilhelmina laid the foundation stone for City Hall on Coolsingel, opposite Stadhuisplein. The monumental building has a symmetrical design, constructed around a courtyard, with the main entrance in the middle . The courtyard, laid out as a small park, can be accessed via the street which runs through the middle of City Hall.

Schielandshuis

by MATIM

Just past the corner of the HEMA department store, you now see the oldest building in the city, the Schielandshuis. Named after the Dike Board of Schieland, which moved into the premises in 1665, the Schielandhuis was built in Dutch classic style with baroque details. When Napoleion visited Rotterdam in 1811, he stayed here. The Schielandshuis was painstakingly restored between 1981 and 1985, and now houses the Rotterdam History Museum.
