The Hague and Scheveningen this very Monday!

by irisbe

Dear friends,

Scheveningen:
I am invited to join our Erasmus students for a visit in The Hague this upcoming Monday.
During lunch time (12:00-14:00 approx) we are going to Scheveningen.
If the weather would be nice I could have taken my picknick but I wonder... so does anyone knows where there is affordable but nice place where I could take a light lunch or snack and a drink if needed?

The Hague.
After finishing our program around 17u00 a 17u30, we still have two free hours to run around in The Hague before returning.
If you like we could meet up for a drink or snack, or if you could give me advice where to go or what to see in few hours time... pls let me know !
I probably won't be together with the students then, I might be together with a few accompaning colleagues.

Thanks already!

When I went to Scheveningen some years ago, there seemed to be any number of places to have a snack. In fact, we had a drink and some sort of a sandwich at a place right on the beach. As I remember it, it was inexpensive. So, even though it was some yeas ago, I should think that nothing much has changed and that here will be at least one snack place for you to have something to eat.

Danny,

Have a look at http://www.knmi.nl/waarschuwingen_en_verwachtingen/
60 % rain chance. There are frietkramen along the the beach walkway, otherwise try one of the terrasses at the 2e Scheveningse Binnenhaven.

A more expensive option is to visit the Pier.

email RoyJava if you want a meet. I would opt for a true Indonesian restaurant.
At 17.00 I'll be on my way to Amsterdam for a concert :(; but I see you tomorrow :)

Travel Tips for The Hague

Official Website for the City

by dln6874

Check out www.denhaag.com. It has tons of useful information about living and visiting the Hague, including things to do. The beach (Scheveningen) is a good place to hang out - restaurants and bars. Centrum (around Gravenstraat) is too. Gravenstraat also has tons of shopping... even on Sundays.

The IMAX theatre in Omniversum is pretty cool too - it's like a planetarium inside so better than a regular big screen IMAX. They have shows all day long too. Panorama Mesdag is a very nice painting - one of few panoramic paintings in the world I think.

And of course, you can't miss Crazy Pianos at Scheveningen.

Grote Kerk

by bugulma

Grote Kerk was built in XIV century instead of old wooden one. In 1425 the tower was built. The guidebooks say there are painted walls since XVII century (I wasn't inside). In the middle of XIX century the roof of the tower was reconstructed and the more heavy roof was installed and the church began to be damaged. In 1957 the middle ages style roof was replaced back.

Internet cafe

by Mique

There are not many internet cafe's in Den Haag anymore. Most people here have their own pc's with connections to the internet. But for those of you in need of checking your mail..

One of the best and easiest to reach internet cafe's is the one that you can find at the Telfort shop. On the corner of the Grote Marktstraat and de Wagenstraat. Next to the Bijenkorf departmentstore.

When you walk in, you see a small ticket dispenser on you're righthandside. An hour internet costs 3 euro. The machine returns money if you don't have 3 euro exact.

With the tikcet you walk up to one of the unused pc's. It askes for the identification code on your ticket and monitors your time left once you've started. Connections are quite fast.

Inside the Binnenhof III

by Mique

Of course most of the decorations aren't original anymore. At least not in this room. Or maybe it is a mixture of old and new. Since i had no guide, leaflet or anything else.. this will remain a mystery unless someone can provide me with the answer...

Royal City AT First Place

by RoyJava

A royal one: Presentations at Palace Noordeinde
Holland has many traditions (the Dutch' love it!) and The Hague also maintains several customs. An interesting one, typical of The Hague, is: >>>

Presentation of credentials:
Most of times at Wednesday morning, when 2 brand-new ambassadors present their credentials (Letter of Credence ). It is a ceremonial happening at Noordeinde Palace where H.M. Queen Beatrix meets the ambassadors between 09.45 and 22.30. So did the Ambassador of the Indonesian Republic in December, 2002, to represent his country in the Netherlands. With special invitation it's definitely worth a visit, some locals go for this event.
