Weekly passes

by glenisceinwen

Hi

Hope this question hasn't been asked before. We are coming to Den Hague for 6 days in April, and remember in the past we had a pass that allowed us unlimited travel on the trams, and maybe buses. (It was a long time ago). We had a photo card at the time. Is this pass still available please, or anything else similar.

Thanks for your help.
Glenis

Travel Tips for The Hague

Intro

by hassan_abu

The Hague is one of Holland's best-kept secrets.
It is home to the Dutch royal family and the country's seat of government.
It is leafy, urbane and civilised.
It also has plenty of cafes, bars, restaurants and museums.

View the painting by Mesdag...

by loreli

View the painting by Mesdag called Panorama Mesdag. Its a huge panoramic painting of which there are only a few in the whole world. It depicts Scheveningen beach at the turn of the century, you hear the seagulls and the wind blowing whilst viewing. You have to climb some stairs to see the painting fromn all sides. Then walk down the road to the Peace Palace and get the tram into Scheveningen (8 or 9) There you can stand at the same spot it was painted (restaurant Seinpost neart to the lighthouse)
You can get a preview at www.mesdag.nl. The screensaver is beautiful! Walking down the streets in Scheveningen and the Hague and coming across small muses (hofjeswoningen), almshouses, or fishermans houses. They are protected buildings now and kept immaculate.
Walk from the Hague Central Station along side the canal towards the Malieveld/Scheveningen and within ten minutes you will reach a neighbourhood called Buurtschap 2005. It has lots of antique shops, bars, restaurants. In this area alone you will find lots of 'hofjeswoningen'. Walk down the Dennenweg/Hooikade/Noordeinde (even next to Palace Noordeinde) and you will find them.

Ice skating

by Mique

During the winter months you can go ice skating on the Hofvijver (court's pond). Usually somewhere between mid december and early february.

In the 2003-2004 season it is open from 10.00 till 21.00 every day. Admission fee is 4 euro's for adults and 3 euro for kids up to the age of 11. Skates can be rented for 4 euro. It is one of the nicest places to go skating. Right in the middle of the city centre with the Binnenhof as background.

The Hague is home to the Royal...

by Routeman

The Hague is home to the Royal Household, the Cabinet, the Parliament and just about all ministries. The legisiature is formed by Parliament together with Sovereign and Ministers. Formally referred to as the States General, Parliament consists of two houses: the Upper House ( called the First Chamber ) and the Lower House ( referred to as the Second Chamber ).

Try a herring!

by dutchiegirl

Dutch people love to eat a 'raw' herring (which isn't really raw, it is salted for a long time before you eat it). You'll find small fish stalls everywhere around the city where you'll see dutch people eating herring by holding them up by the tail. If you want the true dutch experience... try one! They are delicious! :-)
If you don't want to try the herring, you could also opt for the more common fried fish: ask for a 'lekkerbekje' or a portion of 'kibbeling'.
