How to go from Holland Spoor station to Centraal station?

by shigehiro

Hi,

As I am going to stay around Holland Spoor station area, but I heard that the main attractions in Den Haag are mainly in Centraal station, therefore could anyone enlighten of how to get from Spoor station area to Centraal station?
I tried out 'http://www.9292ov.nl/' but is not much helpful as everything is in Dutch..

Any recommendation on attraction places to visit?

thanks for replies.

You can just take a train between the two stations - just turn up at Hollandse Spoor - there will be train I think every 10 - 15 minutes. It takes about 3 minutes.

Previous reply is correct.
If you have any other public transportation questions, just go to http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/tp/1aa687/, which helps you with the translation of www.9292ov.nl

While it is true that Centraal station is somewhat closer to the main attractions than Hollands Spoor, you will need to either walk soem distance or take a tram in both cases. The trams in Den Haag are frequent and userfriendly, and it should not be a big problem visiting the sights regardless of where you are staying.

Just take the tram #17

..and tram #1 to visit Delft or Scheveningen (both highly recommended).

Get familiar with the "Strippenkaart"; see:

Thanks for all the replies.

Huh.. Strippenkaart is indeed a bit more complicated to digest and get used to!
Guess it is a good bargain to go for 8 Strippenkaart type as it can be used for day ticket as well!
Clinged a couple of nice and recommended restaurants from VT review too!

The 15 strippenkaart is best. It's prbably enough for a few days. You don't need a day card at all.

Re: How to go from Holland Spoor station to Centraal station?

I always found using a Strippenkart very confusing and I think most non Dutch people do.

Re: How to go from Holland Spoor station to Centraal station?

Exactly,Brit..

Not very typical Dutch eh?
:)

Well not sure what you mean Leny but most things in Holland are user friendly - I just do not think the strippenkaart is.

Re: How to go from Holland Spoor station to Centraal station?

The strippenkaart is basically a card with strips, the longer the journey, the more strips you stamp off. A strippenkaart of 8 strips, stamped right across counts as a day card.
However, rule of thumb is for an inner city ride, a 2 or 3 strips suffices. You can buy strippenkaart in sizes 2, 3, 8 (in busses), or 15, 45 strips at supermarkets, stations, post offices, etc. Many of us Dutchies have written travel tips about them. Just do a VT search on 'strippenkaart'.

Haaa... anyway, I am back from DH. As well, survived the Strippenkaart and had some great Indo food recommended by fellow VTers..

Brit, don't worry about my earlier reply, was a bit tipsy when writing the message.

Thanks again for the replies.

Den Haag raised some spots on my wish list, thanks to your remark above.
Last time I visited we skipped the evening part and NOT having Indo food; too bad!

Travel Tips for The Hague

Binnenhof

by martin_nl

The Binnenhof is the place where it all began. It is a complex of buildings where used to be a castle that was built between 1230 and 1280. Though it started off as a small hunting lodge, it was extended under successive counts, including Floris V. In the fourteenth century a settlement known as 's-Gravenhage (abbreviated to "Den Haag") grew up around the castle.

Upside Down

by RoyJava

Nope,... don't think you are looking at a wrong picture, or a wrongly placed statue.
This is a r t, baby!

A bit of contortionist, a bit of a clown, and you'll have a carnival creature, looking at you upside down. Artful The Hague just want to give artists the opportunity to show their favourite art-work. This funny one is right in front of the huge beehive,... named >>>

Bijenkorf

It's The Hague's number one shopping mall, you cannot miss him. The colorful statue and some other can be seen on a special guiding tour, created by
Rondleidingen - The Hague Maybe not my best memory, when passing this funny one. For sure a beloved memory, because of the lovely center in my home town The Hague ... where the multi-cultural beauties of humans and art are mixed up with royal presence, best pop artists, and government politics ... oh my oh my!

QUEENS-NIGHT

by RoyJava

And The Best !!!

The Dutch celebrate the Monarchy every year on the 30th of April, named Queens Day. Every year on April 30 the Dutch celebrate this day with the biggest party in the world. Hollands most musically rocking pop-town is The Hague, and our loyal and royal home is the-best-of-the-best festival of The Queens-Night, the "Koninginnenach".. On this day, ... no, evening-night (!) you may go totally loose!

Because the celebrations start in The Hague on the evening of the 29th of April. Many many people, young, old, males, females, all races celebrate in the streets, on the (ancient) squares of the Hague, just before going to major parties of 30th of April in the clubs, disco's, dancings.

The Hague boasts the most famous night in the whole of Holland: the eve of Queen Beatrix' birthday, Koninginnenach (to be pronounced with a really broad Hague accent!). Last year 2007 we jumped into this Queens-night, and had a lot of fun... and drinks too ;o)))

Don't miss anything of this event and best local Hague's custom !!!
Also in 2010 we jumped into the Koninginnenach, even this year it was a bit rainy !!!
