Madurodam; it is a small city, very nice to see.
It is named after George Maduro, born in 1916 in Curacao and studied in Leiden. He was a reserve-luitenant in W.O.II and died in 1945. His parents want to set up a statue. In coorperation with mrs. Boon-van der Stap, who was looking for funds for the Dutch Students Sanatorium, the mini city Madurodam was created. Madurodam supports good purposes for the youth.

Statue of Queen Wilhelmina
by nighthawk
Just across the palace Noordeinde is a giant tree and somewhat to the left of it is this statue of Wilhelmina.
Written in the stone behind the statue is the title of a book she wrote: Lonely yet not alone.
I think she was a tragic queen, having had little of a childhood and being a queen at the early age of 18.
Dunes Of South-Holland
by RoyJava
The Hague is the provincial town of South-Holland. The dunes have protected this area in a natural way and, that's why the dunes play an upmost important role in the production-process of Dunes-Water Company South Holland. It is of great importance the dune-area is taken care of. The Hague and Wassenaar are careful to its dunes and, although special dune-keepers pay attention and do their job, the best caretakers are the people themselves.
Have a great walk into the dunes ... A beautiful, peaceful area and, see my little doggy Jawa running with its green ball ...

by Routeman
In 1895, the architect Berlage designed a building for the insurance company 'De Nederlanden van 1845' on the corner of Gravenstraat / Prinsestraat. This is regarded as the predecessor of the Beurs van Berlage ( former Stock Exchange ) in Amsterdam, which is a listed building. The edifice has meantime been renovated and returned to its original condition. The site now houses offices, shops and storerooms.
