Campground at Wassenaar

by catnl about Duinrell

I have been to'DUINRELL' at Wassenaar a long time ago, but still exciting and very much worthwhile to stay for a holdiay or to visit.

Also near to many beaches in great cities like Scheveningen, Zandvoort(motorraces), Katwijk aan Zee and more Fantastic camping, nature and a big attraction area for any age!
There's a skivalley and a sunstropical swimmingpool! Anything for adults with or without children.

Attraction park Duinrell lies in the garden of the castle Duinrell which no longer exists. Except the attractions you can visit the tropical Tikibad (Tikipool), the Netherland?s biggest indoor slide complex. The attraction park is open in summer from 12 April to and including 26 October from 10.00 to 17.00h. Tikipool from 10.00 to 22.00h. In winter only the Tikipool is open: weekdays from 14.00 to 22.00h. and in the weekends from 12.00 to 22.00h. In early spring often is a maintenance closure! Entrance fee in winter

Duinrell to Amsterdam and beyond

by hwatson

We are staying at Duinrell in Wassenaar for a week in April and wonder if we should hire a car or use public transport. We fly into Amsterdam airport and want to travel around a bit - Amsterdam, miniture museum, windmills, da Haag etc. I assume we would have to get bus from Duinrell to train station and then on to other places and there are 6 of us, so would car hire be easier? Many thanks in advance!

A car hire is easier to get around, but be aware that all the major cities have a parking " problem" and parking tarifs are skyhigh (Amsterdam). Also the West (Randstad) is known for its traffic jams in the rush hours.

Depending on where you go, I would recommend Y/N a car hire. For Zaanse Schans that would be a Y. For downtown Amsterdam that will be a N.

Use this site to check how to go by public transport: http://journeyplanner.9292.nl/

Personally, if you are with 6 people, I would prefer the car option...

I guess you're with kids, here are some tips for them: http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/tp/1dfd29/

Thanks guys. I think we will go for car hire. 2 adults and 4 kids 12-17 and buses and trains most days would prob be a hassle, and prob cost almost as much in the end. We can always take the train to Amsterdam one day.

hello,

this is the Dutch public transportation route planner (in English):
http://journeyplanner.9292.nl/

For departure, choose Airport from pop-down menu.
Then type 'Amsterdam Airport'
For arrival, choose Attraction from pop-down menu.
Then type 'Duinrell Wassenaar'

Hit 'Advise me'.

It's just over an hour using train to Leiden and then bus to Wassenaar.

There is a good link here to all the buses to Duinrell. I have been twice, perhaps three times. Drove the last time but took the bus from The Hague other times.

Duinrell is very good - the swimming pool is has the longest length of a flume in Europe - I won't tell you what happens when the flume ends though!

Re: traveling from amsterdam airport to duinrell wassenarr holiday park

Flume? New word to me... reminds me of the Dutch word 'fluim', phlegm that you spit out onto the ground (hopefully not the floor).
Come to think of it: flume and fluim may not be that far off in meaning. Yuck Yuck, hahaha!

Yes you can go to Duinrell its nice dont forget to bring your bathingsuits.

You can also go to Den Haag.

Or you can go to Scheveningen to walk on the boulevard and the beach its very nice.

Its just 15 min. from Wassenaar.

LOL bathing suits !!!
reminds me of that day (quite some years ago) you could go swimm naked
but on our arrival it seemed that there were so many people they just opened the swimming pool for everyone
We did get a free kind of paper like bathing outfit
but some didn't last long when coming down the slide
can you imagine ! :))
nevertheless yes... quite nice to go there with children on a normal day
