Oslo Airport Hotels

by maldives44

Can anyone advise on Oslo Airport hotels? Even the 2-stars seem to be about 150 USD (1200 NOK).

Is there a city just outside of Gardermoen that has a lot of hotels? I would prefer to stay near the airport and not in Oslo as I have a very early flight the next day.

Or... if you can convince me to just stay in Oslo and deal with the train ride to/from the airport (Sunday evening train ride to Oslo around 20:00 and Monday morning train ride to airport around 6:30)... tell me what I could possibly due in Oslo City Centre on a Sunday night....

Any recommendation is appreciated!
Thanks,
Michele

An alternative would be the Gardermoen GjestegÄrd. Website:
A double room (hotel class) there is Nkr 730 (Single Nkr630) + breakfast Nkr 45,-
They drive to and from the airport for a small fee, and the hosts were really nice and helpful when I stayed there.
Their motel rooms are somewhat cheaper,
but the motel rooms were very, very basic, so I'd go for the hotel standard if I were you.

There are some not-so-expensive options in central Oslo: for instance, I stayed at the City Hotel (www.cityhotel.no) which is just fine, very close to the train station.

From Oslo Gardermoen you can take the fast train (www.flytoget.no) that will take you to the main train station in Oslo in just 20 minutes (ticket costs 150NOK).

Hi, Michele,
Check my Norway pages, on accommodation near Oslo Airport. I picked up this info there from ads in newspaper earlier this summer.
Gardermoen isn't a town, but an ex-military area turned into an airport. There are some farms and small communities around there, such as Jessheim, Eidsvoll etc., but several hotels have popped up closer to the airport than those. Check the hotels that I have noted on the internet and negotiate a good deal. Ask them for transfers to/from the airport. Summer is low season for those hotels. Not much to do out here, but at least one of the hotels has some sort of water play park, others are in vicinity of forests and lakes.
Oslo city is 20 minutes away by airport express train, count 5-10 minutes more for the regular trains. Car is 45-50 minutes and taxis are expensive uncless you cram in many persons. Hope for you that the weather turns better than what it's been like so far here south!
