What is the best way to get to Geilo from Torp airport without a car? Is it possible to get to Geilo without taking a train to Oslo?
Secondly, what is the easiest way to get to Oslo from Geilo?
We are trying to plan a short ski trip to Geilo, and will be travelling with a child. Thanks so much!
I only have the answer to your second question, I'm afraid:
Geilo - Oslo, around four hours by train. See www.nsb.no
If you book online, and well ahead, you could get the "Minipris" ticket at NOK 199 each (regular adult ticket: NOK 400) (If the "minipris" ticket is available (limited number of seats on selected departures only) you'll get "Minipris" as an option when choosing "ticket group"..:o)

Take the train. You might save some time getting off the train at Drammen and get on the Torp airport express from there. Saving you the last 45 min. on the train from Drammen to Oslo, and the same with the bus from Oslo back to Drammen.
I would take the bus to the nearest train-station to Torp. That would be Sandefjord I guess? Both trains stop at Drammen, so no need to go all the way to Oslo

The village is a traditional place, but different from the rest of Hallingdal because of all the hotels and private cabins. Prices are also on the stiff side, but I guess that is normal for a popular resort. On the other hand, you will find a lot of facilities for a village this size.

There are many hotels, but cabins are also an important part of the 5000 beds Geilo has to offer. There are cabins in all sizes and price ranges. The cabins closest to the ski lifts are of course the most popular and expensive, but there are also many cabins in the surrounding areas that are popular for those that enjoy cross-country skiing (or hiking in the summer). Geilo has a few camping places that offer smaller cabins in the lower price range.
As to what accomodation to use, I'm afraid I'm the wrong person to ask. I always stay privat as I have family living there.
As mentioned, Geilo is at the top end of the valley Hallingdal in unique surroundings. Near Geilo is the beautiful mountain Hallingskarvet and further west is Europe’s largest mountain plateau Hardangervidda. Even further west are the fjords that make Norway different from other places. I lived in Geilo for 2 and a half years, and have many fond memories :-)
(August4th )this is where i shall be living for the next 5 month and its been realy good upto yet looking after the few guests we have on the farm base hotel Eivindsplass in Geilo is a great place geilo is very small town but you can get the train to oslo and bergen and travel on the the route thats ment to be the most beautiful cinery in Europe which i must say it lives upto that discription i think because it is nice views all the way from bergen to Geilo!
