Silver of Lady Hurdle
by RoyJava
Huldrene means "Huldre Silver", in myths a belonging to the Wood Nymphs. They made the most beautiful, and precious silver and did manifest themselves as gorgeous brides, or forest spirits. Their silver became famous, however too difficult to imitate by a goldsmith. He could not recreate its design, nor repair it. Let me tell you, that Norway got well-known for its love for silver ... better stay to gold huh? Lady Hurdle was the beautiful Lady of the Forest, even to me she looks like a squirrel. Whatever, this Norwegian book I bought mainly because of the Lady Hurdle ... loving Norwegian myths, legends and sagas, closely linked with the Celtic ones.
Thanks Lady Hurdle!
Snow and blue skies
by daarth
The altitude is at about 800 m and gives a fairly good guarantee for snow in the winter. The ski lifts also have snow canons for artificial snow in the off chance that the snow should arrive late.
There are several ski-schools and ski rentals. If you don't ski often it really pays to rent skis instead of buying them.
If you want to try something unusual, try the popular horse sleigh ride. You could also try the dog sleigh ride or snow scooter ride!
The best web page for Geilo is: www.geilo.no/

Traditional history
by daarth
Geilo also has some traditional history to offer. There is an outdoor museum with several buildings and an archaeological site with Viking graves.
Further down the valley you will also find several outdoor museums worth a visit. On the picture you see the small old wooden church of Geilo.
Kite-skiing
by daarth
This is one of the new ways to ski - kite-skiing. Just like there is kite-surfing, there is also skiing with a kite. It is mostly done on lakes and other horisontal places, and you need some wind to pull the kite. Looks fun!
Lady Hurdle
by RoyJava
This lovely little creature is named Lady Hurdle, living in the World of Dark, deep under the ground. These original Icelandic fairies look like beautiful girls from the front, but in back they may have cow tails or they may be one-sided. They demonstrate that beauty is only one part of something.
These Hurdles also have mythical origines in Norwegian folklore who grab handsome men when her tail is dropped off completely. Indonesia got the same myths, and it is still unknown how these myths got there ...
It is said that when meeting a Hurdle, do not go with her for one night. Because this creature is able to stretch the night out for 7 years!
... a neat, and dangerous telling, isn't it?
