Easter in Norway

by murraymint

Hi! We are coming to ski at Hemsedal, arriving on Easter Sunday the 16th April. I understand that Monday the 16th is also a holiday in Norway and need to know if the shops will be closed on these two days(for essential groceries, milk, bread, etc)? Would be grateful for a reply as soon as possible as we are leaving by car from England early on Friday morning. I'm hoping to learn a little Norwegian on the journey (!) and in the meantime, can only say "Tak".
Val from London, England.

Val, NOTHING closes in Hemsedal, esp NOT on holiedays when it is packed with tourists there (mostly norwegian tourists).
I was there years ago during easter and no problems in getting anything. Most gas/bensin stations (all over Norway) have a wide selection of the most needed groceries (a bit more expensive), and in a touristy area they definately have groceries 24/7 :)

Remember to put sun cream on even if cloudy weather (have seen friends who did not put on and not a pretty view the day after).

Takk;) Værsgod (your welcome).
Velkommen til Norge :)

I'm having a city easter myselfe.

As said you can get most foods at gas-stations, but the price is often the double of what you'd normally pay. All shops are open on Saturday, but some may close a little earlier than normal. In the mean time; God Påske (God Pouskie) - Happy Easter.

... think Påske (Easter) may sound more like 'Pouskey'...:-)

Out of curiosity---what is the difference in pronunciation between "Pouskie" and "Pouskey"? :)

Maybe difficult for a native Norwegian like me, but 'e' at the end of a word usually sounds more like 'Hey' or é as in 'Café' not like 'me' or 'Coffee'. A friend of mine named Tone went away for school in the US and usually ended up being called Toni/Tony or Tuna while it would sounded better if they had said Tone-hey with a silent H. Maybe not the best example, but then I'm not a language teacher either :-)

OK, I get the idea. It's just that "ie" and "ey" are pronounced exactly the same (at least as used in the example "Pouskey" and "Pouskey." You could have made it sound different by typing it as "Pouskay" or whatever.

Oops, that was supposed to be "Pouskie" and "Pouskey."

The Bear Park in Fl?

by SORHUS

We have been driving past this place for years and finally we took the time to stop and it was well worth it :-)

The bear park is situated in Vassfaret near the village Fl? on route R7 between the village Nesbyen ( where you can get to Langedrag to see more mountain animals) and Norefjell (another ski resort)

Vassfaret is a valley between Hallingdal and Valdres with forest , mountains and lakes
There are diffrent walks/hikes (from 3 km to 16 km long) u can take in this beatiful area or you can stay in the park and look at elk(moose), brown bear, hedghogs, goats ,lams , hens, rabbits , and deer
The park has also fasilities so you can bring food and use their BBQ's and there are many tables around, also a playground for the kids

When we where there we came when it was food time and got to see the brown bears cubs, they where so cute...but went hideing when they saw all the people so i didnt get a chance to get any picture of them
The bear got pastery , carrots and meat for food this time of the year
When we where there they where still in their small area but later in the summer they will have a huge area to walk around
We also got close to the elk/moose and the little deer tried to hit us with its horns :-)
