The Alta Igloo Hotel: An icy accomodation

What makes Alta very special (besides the vicinity to the North Cape – a very popular tourist attraction in the world) is an attraction that is unique in the world. In Alta you can visit the largest ice hotel in Norway and the Northernmost located one in the world.As you might imagine, an ice hotel is a hotel completely built of ice or inside a glacier.

The Alta Igloo Hotel opens its door in January each year and melts away again in the spring. The structure includes just 20 or so rooms and a few suites; ice lounges and sculpture gallery; an exquisitely decorated ice bar and a consecrated chapel.

Unique Quality: Everything is built in an incredible harmony with the surroundings and the interior design is simply put, top material. Besides the rooms, once in the Alta Igloo hotel, you can be delighted by the presence of a beautiful bar, several lounges, a magnificent ice chapel, ice art and lighting that you never thought possible. Also, although the outside air can be cold, you will feel very warm inside the rooms and the visitors are recommended to take pyjamas with them so that they won't get too hot.

One of the other big attractions once inside the igloo village is the Lakesestua restaurant. It is built of wood and because of the designer's incredible views it is simply breathtaking at night. Also, one may enjoy a hot tub in the middle of the ice.

To keep it simple, the Alta ice village and ice hotel are two locations that have to be included if you decide to go on an escorted tour of the area.
