  • YMCA - Budget Accommodation

    by

I've been to Bergen on three occassions now and each time I've stayed in the YMCA at Bergen, This is a local hostel right in the hub of all the action Bergen has to offer.

It's a hostel so its fairly basic accommodation. Shared dorms etc but these have their own bathroom.

A great communal facility with TV and free internet connection. Good cooking facilities and very friendly staff.

If you visit make sure to pay a visit to Brygen, the fishmarket and the hill that overlooks Bergen (can't remember the name. Some great bars and coffee shops. A fantastic break and very cheap flights can be arranged from UK airports.

It is in expensive country so all the more reason to save on accommodation at this great hostel.

If you come to this lovely part of the world I'd definately suggest you invest in the Golden Circle Tour. You'll have a fab day seeing some amazing scenery on railways, boats on the fjords, coaches etc.

    Pete.

Unique Quality: The hostel overlooks the harbour with a lovely roof garden perfect for reading a book on a summerday or nipping outside quickly for a speedy photo at dawn on a wintery morning.

    Pete.

Directions: Next to the Fish Market (but it doesn't smell!)

    a good hostel, hopefully

    by

The Bergen YMCA Hostel used to be called differently when I stayed there, and I hope that things have improved... it looks so, judging by the website. The hostel is an HI affiliated hostel.

Unique Quality: it was a very friendy hostel when I stayed there, with the drawback that there were only huge dorms... apparently now there are only small dorms and private rooms, which makes this hostel more desirable.

The location is unbeatable... really a few steps away from the fish market and the old town

Directions: a few steps away from the city centre

Warm and friendly service, especially while booking via email.

Plentiful breakfast, rolls and cheeses and meats etc Cereals too.

Unique Quality: Lovely view from the rooftop across the city. Especially at night.
