We booked this hotel as a treat for the last day of our holiday around Bergen in summer 2003.
In fairness, while very expensive, it has what is needed for a fabulous stay, even if not at great value.
Our room was distinctive with a fantastic view over the harbour. The balcony was a bit scary for someone like me that is prone to vertigo, but great nonetheless.
What let this hotel entirely down was the breakfast service. The restaurant was a total mess, no staff to take plates away that were piling on every table, no supply of clean dishes or drinks, it was total and utter chaos.
It seemed like the whole staff had gone on strike on the day and we were left to fend for ourselves. Such a disaster from a 4 star hotel was nothing but shocking.
It may well be that it was a one-off event and now the hotel is run flawlessly. Certainly I won't be returning there.

on the waterfront.

Pretty much an average hotel with decent food. The location makes it unique.
Unique Quality: Unique view of the commings and goings in the harbour and the "bryggen" on the other side.
Directions: On the waterfront and in walking distance from the fishmarket.
I forget, but I think it was around $120 a night, think that was a special deal. There was room for three of us.
Unique Quality: Very nice hotel. Newly built/remodeled with very nice clean rooms. Get a room with a view overlooking the water, nice!
Had a room with a small balcony. I was able to sit outside and write in my journal to a terrific view of Bergen. Close to the things we wanted to see. Over looking a harbor and the old part of Bergen - Bryggen.
