This is a wonderful place to stay. Very close to everything, yet so calm. The gueshouse is very clean and has a big kitchen. ya, in Norway you have to stay in a place that has kitchen!! everything looks so nice and tidy. Receptionist was good too, they speak english so well in norway.
Directions: When you come out of the train station, go slightly right. Either take Marken or Kongoscargat. It is on tverrgaten street that connects the above two.
Again, since I live in Bergen, I haven't stayed here myself, but it's a good alternative to those that need a cheap place to stay in the centre of town.
(I often get the question for cheap accommodation, and I think I prefer to recommend this one than the Montana youth Hostel. Montana might be a little cheaper, but you get the extra cost of using the bus to get back and forth to the centre of town.)
Unique Quality: Within walking distance to all facilities in the centre.
Everything is basic, but they have a reputation for being clean and tidy.
Directions: 5 minutes walk from the train station.
When exiting the station by the main entrance, you cross the street in front and walk down the pedestrian street "Marken". Turn right on the second street (after the Lepra museum)
I stayed in the Marken Gjestehus located 5 minutes or so from the city centre. The location is good and the place is ok. Good value for price.
Unique Quality: This place is good for groups or travellers that want to cook their own food as they have all the needed facilities.
I prefer to choose a hostel wen i go to Scandinavia because they are very clean and organized, so you can save some money that is never enough when you visit an expensive country like Norway.
I fond this hostel very good and good value.
I paid 33$ per night for a 4 beds dormitory room, they also have 6 beds ones for less, but if you plan to go, you better reserve quite earlier, when i left the hostel, on the 4th of Feb., they told to start to have reservations even for the next summer .
When you leave there is a 'flybussen' stop 5 mins walk far from the hostel that will take you to Flesland airport in 45 mins. for 70NOK., if this is the airport that you want.
Unique Quality: Only 5 mins. walk from the city center, easy to reach from the train or bus station, 12km. far from Flesland airport.
Directions: They are placed on the corner between Tverrgaten ( which is a lovely pedestrian street ), and Kong Oscarsgaten.
A neat little place with an old fashioned lift. You know, the kind that require you to shut the metal grilles before it can move? This must be the oldest lift in Bergen!
Unique Quality: Despite the creaky lift, the interior of this place is modern, stylish, clean and near to the train station. There's nothing more a backpacker can ask for. I was told this place is cleaner and more spacious than YMCA which is down by the harbour. A double room over here goes for 500nok.
You're lucky, Marken Guesthouse has an online booking system. I had to call them from Singapore to book my room, back in 2002!
Directions: Just walk north, into a little cobbeled lane from the train station. Turn to a sharp right about two lanes away. Nkr 220 per person for doubles
Prices range from 160 NOK to 310 NOK for one night, depending on how many people you share a room with. Largest rooms have six beds, single rooms are available.
Unique Quality: Very tidy and cosy rooms, modern facilities, small and comfortable. And let's not forget the excellent location! Nice view too.
Directions: Located in central Bergen:
Kong Oscarsgate 45
Marken Gjestehus; you get to choose to sleep in a 6, 4 or 2-beds dorm and then the price varies with accordance to that.
Unique Quality: Considering that it is REALLY expensive to be eating out in Norway, cooking is good way to save and to have a good meal. Utensils, pots and pans were provided in the kitchen and we had a good time cooking our mussels and pasta. Furthermore, each of us had our own closet that has a lock so you dun have to worry about your belongings while you spend your day out. They also have quite a good security system as in you need a electronic pass to gain access to the bedroom that you had been allocated.
Directions: With walking distance to supermarkets, train station and there is a kitchen as well! Nice view as well from the dining area as well (check out the photo) and it also has a TV lounge where you can chil
Markenhaus or somethign like that, He he sorry. :(
30 kroner a night
Unique Quality: Clean fully equiped kitchen
They clean the walls every second day. Yes they actually scrub them. I was amazed too!!
Security cards for every room
Clean showers and washing facilities
Directions: Umm I'll have to get back to you on that one. Only a 23 minute walk from the station. i could describe it but you'd just get confused I s'pose.
Its up on the 4th floor of this building. So you have t
