I haven't stayed here over night myself, but I know many that have. Seems like they all enjoyed their stay. I have dined here a few times, and can say I was quite satisfied. I am often asked for a recommendation for a place, and this is one I often mention as it is central and in walking distance to most sites in town.
Near the waterfront, and close to all central facilities
Neptun is an ok hotel to stay at. I stayed here for a meeting. Nothing particularly luxurious about it. Quiet. Breakfast is ordinary, lunch is supposed to be a 5-star experience, I was told by a local later. I would not have guessed by their breakfast. The apple jiuce dispenser dispensed juice that was long after the best-before date. The rooms are refurbished. The staff is friendly.

Despite the *very* pleasant look of its three restaurants and lobby, my room upstairs was quite dingy and small. When I arrived in my room, there were towels and sheets in the middle of the floor and items in the trash bin; it had not yet been made up. The next day when I came back from being out all day, housekeeping had not come in and made up the room. There is only one small towel in my single. My room key (a card) repeatedly did not work, and I had to go down to the front desk to get it fixed each time. Staff members were unsympathetic and did not try to get to the bottom of the problem, instead saying that it must have been my fault.
This was a pleasant hotel, a block from the opposite side of the harbor from the Bryggen. The room was pleasant. However, it was unusually warm that night, and there was no air conditioning. See my travelog for the painful description of the night.
