the town of the 7 mountains
by call_me_rhia
Bergen is a rainy town in southern Norway, spectacularly set on a peninsula amid 7 snow-capped mountains. The long row of austere timber buildings and cobblestone streets that line the waterfront and the fish-market bear witness to an important past; it was, in fact, one of the largest ports of the Hanseatic League of Merchants. I enjoyed strolling about town, visiting the many museums (although I am not a museum fan), and especially the seafood market by the harbour... mount floyen proved to be an interesting side-trip, too.
Above all, Bergen was my entry point and my first taste of Norway - a great place to start discovering an interesting country.

Wander around Bryggen and the outdoor fish market. The view from Mt Flǿyen - reached by funicular which was covered by the Bergen card. Is it still? Go up anyway, especially if you are not going on to the Fjords.
Buildings Architecture

I found the old building beautiful and interesting. They are all around, in the city centre, in the Brygeen and even when getting further up the hill to the Floyen direction. So I added here few examples.

PT 2 Flǻm
Stay a night. During the day Flǻm is just a place on the nutshell tour where people transfer from train to boat or vice versa. In the evening it is a real place. Views from the railway which plunges from the snow to the sea.
