 | Hardangervidda Nasjonalpark Reviews | Tips 1 - 4 of 4 | | If you stay there, you have a choice of a motel room, a rather nice cabin or your own tent. The latter would not be too pleasant in rainy weather as the area seems to be waterlogged. The cabins are decorated with traditional wooden carvings on the outside and are well-furnished with a sofa to sit on in addition to a bunk-bed. There is a kitchenette and even a utility room, where you can leave your shoes or umbrellas. The motel is situated right across the main road and has all the facilities.
If you decide to stay in a cabin, you'll get a surprise. In addition to the lavatories next to your cabin, the owners reserve two units in their motel for their cabin guests, where they can lock themselves in and take showers and splash about to their heart's content. Unlike on many other campsites, hot water is free here! Well, you may have to cross the main road with a towel round your head, but who cares? The campsite at Kinsarvik is a big one, with many cabins of different standard to rent, places for caravans and tents. We stayed in the smallest cabin, as there were just the two of us, but this tiny cabin was supposed to house four. The beds were of the train couchette type, covered with artificial leather, a little hard. Don't put sheets on them, the cover is so slippery you will find them on the floor in the morning. Clean communal bathrooms for us, but bigger cabins did have the facilities. If you use the shared bathroom and want to take a shower in the morning, get the chip (10 NOK worth) the previous evening or you will have to wait till the reception opens at 9 to get one. We paid 290 NOK as it was on 21 August. The high season price - till the 20th is 350 NOK for that tiny cabin.
The campsite is situated on the cliff directly above the fjord and the ferry terminal. You get great views sitting right in front of your cabin. Boat hire possible from the campsite - ask at the reception. In Norway there is a law called ”Allemansretten” – Everybody’s right of way Basically you can camp freely almost anywhere as long as it is not on cultivated land and not near any houses (minimum 150 meters). You do not have to ask for the owners permission if you stay up to 2 nights. If you are far away from any settlements like up in the mountains, you don’t have to ask permission if you stay more than 2 nights. Generally if you don’t make a nuisance of yourself, you can camp and enjoy the great Nature here in Norway. Remember to leave the place just as you found it. Leave a Comment Theme: Campground
