Rica Seilet Hotel in Molde: what a great view

by globetrott

When you are searching for a hotel with one of the best views in Norway, the Rica Seilet Hotel in Molde might be an excellent choice for you in case that you are lucky to get one of the rooms facing the waterfront. I did not stay there over night, but had a walk around this hotel in the early morning.

Its all about the 3 "V"-s :
View, View, View !
And you might stay all the time on your balcony and watch the ships sailing in and out and the mountains-panaorama changing its colors in the sunlight.

Kongsfjord Gjestehus: The best place to stay on the Varanger peninsula

by NYGrrl

We didn't stay here, but rather went for dinner on a very short trip through this part of Norway. We regretted not spending the night immediately! The owner has rebuilt a small fishing village in the middle of nowhere. You spot it immediately from the road due to the sudden clutch of brightly colored houses in the middle of the snowy landscape. He's furnished the place with antiques and is an excellent chef. The service was fantastic, Ase does everything himself and is very friendly and engaging. We had an excellent chat about Norwegian aquavit and the unusual dishes he prepares. The only other towns in the area (Berlevag and Tana Bru) are not nearly as interesting.

The key characteristic is that this is in the middle of nowhere. But its also a historical landmark as one of the few places not burned down after the war.

Its also unique due to the food that is served. You need to call in advance to request dishes (this is not a spot to just drop in in the wintertime, but he'll open up for you). He prepares dished like King crab (baked in salt, star anise and lemons) and whale. Very unusual.

SNOWHOTEL KIRKENES: Something utterly different!

by mandie301

WOW!!!!! A really different and amazing experience. Not for the faint hearted. Great Food, (we had reindeer sausage starter and a delicious fish main course at the GABBA restaurant - which is the area that it heated and powered - just in case sleeping in the ice hotel gets too much) It was an utterly unique experience and a conversation point for years to come!!!!!!! The hotel also arranges snowmobiling , husky sledging and has its own Reindeer park. There is even a 'honeymoon' suite - although not sure how that works in an 'individual' zipped up sleeping bag at minus temperatures hahaha! My only comment was that I was expecting something of a 'wilderness' style experience - the hotel is right next to the main road..which didnt actually spoil it it any way but just wasnt what I was expecting! The staff were so friendly and helpful and really added to the enjoyment of the stay.

Next morning at 8.45 am there is a transfer bus back to the Rica kirkenes hotel (about 7 mins transfer)

SLEEPING ON A BLOCK OF ICE!!!!!!!

HUSKY SAFARI - 2 hrs - MEETINGPOINT: RICA KIRKENES HOTEL at 13 00 hrs (although be aware that this isnt a 'wilderness' style safari as you sled alongside a road for a good part of the way. it was great fun but nowhere near as good as the husky sledging experience from Tromso.)

SNOWMOBILE TOUR and NORTHERN LIGHTS SPOTTING - 2 hrs - Meting point : KIRKENES SNOWHOTEL at 20 00 hrs (very cold - in fact so cold that we had to wear the crash helmet visors up as our breath was freezing instantly it hit the visor and preventing visability. We didnt spend long out on the snowmobiles at all - again Tromso offered a brilliant snowmobiling experience so if you are heading there as well - hang on for that one)

1500 meters from the Arctic Sea!

* 10 spacious and illuminated SnowSuites decorated with SnowSculptures
* Arctic SnowBar for celebrations and for cool drinks
* Arctic SnowReception for cool check-in

Thon Hotel Munch: Clean good value for money hotel in Oslo, Norway

clean and good value for money. Ten minutes walk to Oslo centre. Good choice for breakfast. Bathroom looks a little 'tired' but great shower! 150 kroner taxi ride from the central bus station.
